New week. New plan. This week’s health and fitness plan is simple: keep moving and stay healthy. The temperatures for the week will be below freezing for the majority of the week (highs in the mid to lower 20’s).
With the cold temperatures, it means that the boys and I are spending a lot more time indoors. Indoors where many germs are shared (at school, at the grocery store, with each other). Germs!
Last Thursday when I picked up P from school, he had an upset tummy… which resulted him not going to school on Friday. This is his first absence from school and sickness here in our new town. It wasn’t expected or fun. It just happened.
He got sick twice on the way home. Thankfully he was able to do it outside… and decided that the cold/fresh air felt better than the warm van. He wanted to slowly walk home (like turtle pace). I ended up trailing him like a creepy person in my white van the 2 blocks (in our neighborhood) home.
The next day we kept him home. Of course he was feeling better, but I didn’t want to chance him infecting others in his class (or worse him getting sick at school). We did school at home using our homeschool curriculum we had from before the move. Wow… teaching TWO is SO much easier than teaching 3!
No one wants to see their child sick. Realizing that the boys and I need that extra help to support a healthy functioning immune system, I decided to work with MomSelect and BioGaia to review their BioGaia ProTectis children’s probiotics.
Did you know that 70% of your immune system is located in the digestive tract!? BioGaia ProTectis works in the digestive tract to help keep the immune system healthy. A daily dose of BioGaia ProTectis helps to strengthen your child’s natural defenses to keep them going strong. Stay healthy.
This probiotic is safe for children. Not all probiotics are the same. BioGaia ProTectis is unique that it contains the exclusive probiotic L. reuteri Protectis. This is safe for both children and adults.
I am giving these pro-biotic supplements to my boys with the hopes and intentions to help support a healthy immune system… no more upset sad tummies or sick days.
Focusing on health and happy kiddos (and mama) is my intent. You can find BioGaia ProTectis at your local Walgreens.

We do a lot of smoothies and fruit, I feel this keeps us healthier even in the winter.
We don’t currently use probiotics, but we eat a lot of yogurt. I’ll research probiotics for my daughter again.
I’m not a cold weather running fan. If it’s less than 40, I’ll prefer the TM. I’m training for a half right now and I’m ready to get more long runs in outside for sure!

Hi,
I use water Kefir now as a probiotics for the kids and myself. I was so sick last year and that impact my marathon training for a few weeks !
It is never too cold to run outside. Just need more layers when it is getting colder !

Blech! So sorry your son was sick! It’s been a tough year for germs. Here we try to eat well, sleep well and do plenty of hand washing.

Its always difficult to stay healthy in the winter, especially with how cold and snowy so much of the country has been. Here’s to everybody feeling 100% better soon! Hopefully Spring will be here soon, which always helps me to get over any Winter illnesses.

I love the way I feel when I take probiotics, but it has fallen off my morning routine so they are just sitting in my cupboard! Oops! I also like to use essential oils to help support my immune system.

Awww poor little dude! I laughed at the thought of you trailing him in your van. Ahhh motherhood! We have probiotics galore in our house, but we ALL forget to take them. I need to get better at that.
Toni says
We have sooo much illness in my house. We do fresh juices/smoothies, take non GMO vitamins and wash our hands like it is going out of style. Plus we are planning on taking probiotics too!

Sick kids are no fun… Glad your son is feeling better. That probiotic sounds like a good choice. Great post.

My kids were eating yogurt nearly every day, but have gone on a yogurt strike, so I may need to check these out.
And I’m totally laughing at the creeper van. ;o)
Patty @ Reach Your Peak says
I should really start using more probiotics. I didn’t know until recently that your gut health plays a huge role in immunity!

I love Body Pump Flow. I haven’t done it in a while. I need to change that!
