If you have been following my journey the past few weeks, months or even years, you know that I have been trying to eat cleaner, whole, and even organic foods.. all while trying to maintaining a budget. A few weeks ago, I was sent Organicgirl greens to sample, create a recipe, and share with you my opinion!
Organic girl is a small group of women and men in California’s fertile Salinas Valley who want to offer the highest quality produce, without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. With the planet in mind, the plastic containers are made from 100% recycled packaging – a sustainable choice.
Organicgirl carries a variety of single greens and blends, delicious served raw and cooked. The two that I sampled are SUPERGREENS! (baby red chard, baby tat soi, baby spinach, baby green swiss chard, baby arugula) and I baby kale! (baby kale, baby spinach and other baby greens).
I liked the products I tried because they were fresh, organic, somewhat local… and already washed 3 times!! That was great for me as sometimes (I will admit) I forget to wash my produce (don’t judge).
Even though I am not a foodie, I wanted to share with you TWO simple recipes I have used and love with organicgirl baby kale and super greens.
Cranberry, Walnut, Gorgonzola Super Greens Salad Recipe
Ingredients:
- Organicgirl Super Greens!
- Trader Joe’s Candied Walnuts
- Trader Joe’s Dried Cranberries
- Gargonzola Cheese (or feta or similar)
- Trader Joe’s Cranberry Walnut and Gargonzola salad dressing
Directions:
Simply mix the above ingredients in a large bowl (or on your plate) and carefully sprinkle with the salad dressing. It is the perfect blend of salty sweet in a healthy treat! Enjoy!
The other simple recipe I use is their baby kale. I love kale and use it in my morning smoothies as well as my afternoon juice (that I have been doing lately). When I am not eating fresh kale … in my salad or juicing it… I have found a way to make my mornings a bit easier.
Simple Way to Add Greens to Smoothies
I simply put the entire container of super greens or kale (or other great organicgirl product) in my Vitamix blender with 1 cup of water.
I blend until it is a liquid consistency.
Pour pureed greens in ice cube trays.
Freeze the pureed greens.
When frozen, pop out of the trays and place in a zip lock bag.
When making smoothies (on the go or in a morning rush), pop 1-2 super green cubes in your smoothie in place of ice cubes. You get a potent kick of nutrients as well as the ice cube coldness!!
Healthy winning!

OrganicGirl is my preferred brand of baby spinach and I eat it ALL.THE.TIME! It’s sold in WalMart in Canada (I’ve never been to a Whole Foods bc the nearest one is an hour away). I make salads with it, cook with it, and put it in my protein smoothies 🙂
