Our family loves spending as much time outdoors hiking and exploring local trails. On Saturday we loaded up the van and headed to Tahoe for a day trip. We hiked the Van Sickle Bi-State Park hiking trail. We hiked a small portion of this trail last fall with my parents. We enjoyed it so much we wanted to hike it again and go further.
We really enjoy this trail because it is perfect for our family. It is a quick hike that gets us out in nature and quickly up high enough in elevation to enjoy some amazing views of Lake Tahoe.
We love climbing and exploring the many boulders along the trail. The boys (and my husband) get the biggest kick out of checking out the caves and pretending there is wildlife camped out in one. Thankfully they have not encountered anyone (thing) living in a cave… yet.
This is what they consider an easy to moderate hike. There is an elevation gain but it is worth it (again) for the views of the Lake Tahoe basin.
This is the only park that crosses into two states. With 575 acres of the park within Nevada and 150 acres in California. Pretty cool.
We enjoyed the many different terrains along the hike. From towering sequoias to amazing rock formations. I only wish the photos did justice to the amazing beauty that is Tahoe.
Lake Tahoe is one of our family’s favorite places to visit, hike, camp, and make memories. We love being out in nature to explore and just breathe in the amazing awesomeness that is. There are many other amazing hiking trails in Tahoe that we haven’t explored … but so far this one is our favorite.

I love hiking, but get to do it very rarely since there isn’t much here in SC. So awesome that you get to go as a family.

Growing up I hiked the Appalachian trails quite often. Now in Houston the hiking isn’t as glamorous. I sure miss the mountains.

I love nature walks and I almost went to the Van Sickle Bi State Park last month when I stayed at the Lake Tahoe Resort. It was right behind the hotel. We went to a few of the beaches but next time I am going on a walk/hike there.

I love hiking – especially now that it is finally starting to cool off a bit here in TN so I can actually go for longer than an hour or two. It’s a great time to hang with my hubby and get a little cross training in at the same time 🙂

We also love to get out and hike, but being in Iowa (flat, cold), don’t get much of a chance any more.

Wow! What a gorgeous hike! I ‘d love to go to Tahoe someday. Our kids love hiking and adventuring so we are gradually working into the longer ones. It looks like you got an amazing view!

Fun!! I would LOVE to visit Tahoe! We have a small “mountain” (escarpment) nearby that lots of people hike. I’ve gone trail running there a few times but have yet to bring the kids… Looks like we’ve found something fun to do as a family this weekend.

My parents just took a trip to Tahoe and I was amazed at their gorgeous photos. I would definitely consider going there with my own children next summer.
