I have seen many posts swirling around the web the past few weeks ranging from topics of what I ate Wednesday to what I wore Wednesday. I am not a food blogger. Nor am I a fashion blogger. I am a mommy blogger who is into fitness. Being a mom is who I am. It is the very core of my being.
Now that summer is in full swing, I have all three boys at home all day long. It is fun. It is loud. It is busy. Finding a way to fit in fitness during the day is the biggest challenge, because there are always little eyes, hands, and MOUTHS/tummies that need attention.
A few months ago, I did a series for one week: A Day In The Life of Running Rachel. Where each day I shared with you what we did that day. Today I am going to share with you what I did Wednesday. It isn’t super exciting. It is a mom life. It is what I did Wednesday.
My mornings start off pretty crazy, like most other homes. I begin the morning rushing around feeding hungry tummies, finding clothes that fit the children, and wrestling the youngest for a diaper change.
I usually begin by starting the never ending task of Mt. Laundry, unloading the dishwasher, watering my garden, and feeding the dog. Glamorous life I tell ya!
When there was a quiet to the storm, I made myself a FitFrappe protein drink from Big Train and read my YouVersion Bible study devotion – Soul Detox.
My husband had the late shift at work, so I was able to sneak out for a quick solo run on the river trail. My #fitgear for this run (and most runs) are my Brooks Running shoes, Polar FT40 heart rate monitor, #ArmourBra and a desire to get the miles covered. Don’t forget to wear the sun protection clothing too!
Right after I returned home from my run, I loaded the kiddos up in the car to head to swim lessons. I was a hot sweaty mess, so I relaxed and enjoyed the sunshine.
After swim lessons, we played and swam for about 30 minutes. Then we headed home for lunch and our afternoon began.
I enjoyed a veggie wrap (shredded lettuce, carrots, sprouts, hummus, tomatoes and peppers). The boys had their standard PB&J sammies.
After lunch we (attempt to) enjoy some quiet down time. Even though it is summer, I like to keep their brain fresh (and follow somewhat of a schedule). We do school at home activities, lessons, and follow a themed schedule. We do a rotation of 15 minutes for each activity. My two youngest (4 & 2) do school on the computer while playing Reading Eggs or StarFall, while my oldest reads his favorite library books. We also journal, do a craft and other fun things. Yes, some days we watch movies (if it has been a crazy LOUD, busy morning).
When school at home was over, and their attention span was spent. They requested to watch Veggie Tales (Dance of the Cucumber). I was in the mood for some Silly Songs with Larry and some quiet too. The boys enjoyed the movie and I busted out a quick Ibiza workout from the Bikini Body Express by Valerie Waters.
After my workout and the show, the boys enjoyed some free play. They mostly entertained themselves building with legos, dressing in costumes, and traveling in/out of the backyard.
When their behavior was getting more whiny and bored they declared they wanted to ride their bikes on the river trail to the park. It was 96 degrees… Hot! But I am always up for an adventure, sunshine, and park fun… so we headed out with LOTS of water and snacks.
Upon returning home, the boys enjoyed a popsicle while I prepared dinner. My husband worked late so he was not home for dinner. When he is not home for dinner, I usually do not prepare a huge meal as it is just me and the boys. The boys requested lunch for dinner. I made a gourmet meal of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the boys, and a super yummy black bean and corn pita for myself!! (Recipe will be shared in a few days).
We end the day with our typical routine: bath, books, bed! Mama is spent. The boys are pooped. The big boys are fast asleep by 7:30. Unfortunately, because the youngest took a late afternoon nap (thank you Veggie Tales show) he didn’t go to sleep until closer to 9PM
I don’t lead a glamorous life. I lead a busy life full of busy boys. I choose to fit in fitness wherever and whenever I can.
What does your typical day look like? I would love to hear about your busy life!

the pitfalls of being single mom and the only mom who runs ‘mom taxi’ at all hours of evening, etc…apparently the other moms must turn into pumpkins or something past 9 pm! lol
