Happy Fitness Inspiration Friday! Sometimes in our fitness journey we need a little fresh fitness inspiration. I am excited to introduce you to my newest friend, Esther. A few weeks ago I shared my first cross fit experience, and Esther was overjoyed with excitement at my new fitness challenge. She is funny, inspirational, and a true wonder woman! Esther is my FITspiration!
My fitness journey began in 2009 when I began training for a triathlon to benefit Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, a home for terminally ill children and their families where I volunteer.
I was inspired by the absolute love for life that the children in the program had and their never ending positive affect on all those around them; children who were facing cancer, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other life threatening illnesses, some in the final stages. I decided to do the Canuck Place Adventure Challenge, a yearly triathlon that benefits the hospice and that when I found a love for adventure and realized how out of shape I was.
I began running on a weekly basis but it wasn’t until January of 2010 when I was introduced to CrossFit that I met the exercise regime that would ultimately take me to an elite level of fitness and give me the insatiable thirst to better myself daily. I am now a level 1 certified CrossFit trainer and an avid enthusiast for all things health related. I honestly feel that with CrossFit’s prescription for constantly varied, functional movements at a high intensity, I am strong throughout my body and capable to perform any activity in great capacities. I am a true CrossFit fanatic and love to share the health, knowledge and strength I’ve received from this regimen with my own clients. We, in the CrossFit family, truly feel the encouragement of all CrossFitters from all over the world, wherever and whenever we connect. We are as loyal and supportive as we are strong.
One of my greatest struggles while striving for physical strength is that I have an autoimmune disease that can take me from my 235 lb dead lift one rep max high and ground me to a minimal 135 try and on any given, albeit rare, day. I struggle and there is nothing that I can do but take it easy and hope that tomorrow is a better day. What I’ve learned from this is that everyone, at some time or another, needs to slow down and focus on what they are able to do instead of what they are not able to do. From my journey, my weaknesses and my triumphs, I have learned that we all stumble but that doesn’t mean we have to stop trying.
I focus on not finding weakness in falling down; but finding strength in getting back up.
