I am a mom to three growing boys. My hearts desire and goal is for them to grow up to be young men who are leaders in their community. Yes, I have many other hopes and dreams for them, but learning to be live a healthy lifestyle and be a leader are at the top of my list. Studies have shown that kids who embrace healthy living are true leaders.
As a mom, my job is to show and teach the importance of healthy living habits. This can be done from my example or just showing them their path to healthy living. I have shared with you how active our family is with our love of the outdoors and sports. This love and valued importance has been shown and taught.
As a family, we value healthy living and we do life together. We are active together. We support each other. We encourage each other. We cheer loudly for one another.
Whether our healthy living example is a family bike ride on the trail or a hike off the beaten path.
Doing life together and being the example and role model you seek for your children to follow is key. When we lived in California, we enjoyed participating in the local Turkey Trot each Thanksgiving. We need to find a local 5K here in Kansas City to challenge each other and do something fun and active together.
All three of my boys love playing soccer. The past few weeks we have spent every weekend watching, cheering, supporting, and even running up and down the sidelines of their games. Raising my boys and growing true leaders go hand in hand when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle and playing sports. Playing sports helps my boys learn to step up and be a good teammate, player, and leader to his team.
On April 4, 4-H launched their “Grow True Leaders” campaign, which aims to address America’s need for well-equipped youth that are prepared to step into leadership roles. 4-H believes that every child has the potential to be a true leader, but need to be taught the life skills and given opportunities to be such. 4-H programs give young people the experiences they need to develop these skills.
You can also take a moment to join 4-H and their ThunderClap to share one unified message about how great kids are today.
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of 4-H. The opinions and text are all mine.

Hey Rachel!
A friend pointed me to your blog and I’ve been enjoying your posts for a while now. I couldn’t agree more on raising leaders, I remember someone saying the goal of parenting is to raise great adults, not good kids. Meaning, doing exactly what your talking about, showing them and pointing them in the direction of becoming great leaders.
I also want to now check out 4-H, I’ve heard of it before but haven’t had much experience. Looks like a great organization by the video. Thanks for sharing!
Keep up the great work, mama!
