My favorite season is fall. I love the crisp cool air, the beauty of the changing leaves, and the theme of thankfulness abounds. I get giddy with excitement thinking of all the fun things we can do as a family to make memories.
One of our family traditions during October, is to go to a pumpkin patch and pick our own pumpkin. We also attempt to do a corn maze (which is totally dependent upon the children’s temperament and cooperation at that time).
Since we are new to the Sacramento area, I asked my local girlfriends what there was to do for pumpkin patches and corn mazes. I was surprised to find that there were many choices to choose from. I still think Sacramento is big city and there are no farms around. We chose a small local farm, Keema Family Pumpkin Farm, to spend the day as a family.
They had a cute one acre corn maze, which was actually pretty challenging to navigate through. The maze is only about 1 acre in size, so it was a doable activity for all the boys with out them getting lost, discouraged, or tired. We actually braved the maze twice.
I personally loved the old time feel of this farm. The boys and I enjoyed watching the tractors and old farm machinery in action. I loved the crisp colors, the farm smell (yes there were animals to pet and their smell), and the slower pace of life.
Of course it was fun to spend a family day with the boys and my husband. It isn’t too often that we venture out as a family to do something fun like this… and I really enjoy making memories together as a family.
After picking our pumpkins, 1 big and three smaller ones, we ventured home to continue our family tradition of carving and decorating our pumpkins. Because the boys pumpkins were so small, I let them paint their pumpkins. They enjoyed getting messy and exploring their creative side. I enjoyed no goopy pumpkin mess and sharp objects.
I enjoyed a low key, few moments, as I gazed on to my happy little family. My husband was cutting, cleaning out, and carving the pumpkin. The boys were painting and decorating their pumpkin. Our dog happily sat near us, her pack. And for a moment, I had very little responsibility besides to just soak in the treasure I have, and take mental pictures.
I may not be a fan of Halloween, but I do enjoy the fall harvest themes which include pumpkin patches, pumpkins, and corn mazes. I love any and all excuses to spend time together as a family making memories. Going to a pumpkin patch to pick our family pumpkin is one of my favorite family traditions.
I would love to hear your family’s fall traditions!
Do you go to a pumpkin patch? Do you get lost in a corn maze? Do you go apple picking? What is your favorite fall activity?

You have some great photos! We go to the pumpkin patch but have not been lucky enough to see some old time tractors.
Not a fan of the corn maze but it does make for great pics.
