Do you sometimes feel like a gerbil running on a wheel inside a cage as you scurry from place to place, chauffeuring your children from one endless activity to another?
What if, for one moment, you could just step off of the wheel . . . and relax?
How would you feel then? And what if that single moment could stretch into an hour, or even a whole day?
It’s Your Kid, Not a Gerbil will provide practical solutions and helpful insight to get off the activity wheel so that you can put your time and energies where they really count: in establishing strong character and a love for home and family that will serve your kids well for a lifetime.
I was super excited for the opportunity to review Kevin Leman’s new book, It’s Your Kid Not a Gerbil. The subtitle is basically how to create a happier and less stressed home.
I WAS SOLD!
I was excited to get my hands on this book, learn from a professional, and apply the tips and techniques in to our crazy, frazzled, stressed home.
Leman’s book is for perfect for parents seeking God’s will in their parenting experience.
Leman discusses important topics tackling all age ranges (young to college age). There is SO MUCH fantastic information in this book!! I am not kidding. With each chapter, I could share an entire post of information I have learned and hope to apply to my parenting.
He covers topics such as:
– Your presence matters more than you think.
– Having a busy social and activity schedule won’t get you where you want to go.
– Pushing your child isn’t in your child (or your) best interest.
– Where you spend your time and money reveals a lot about your priorities.
– Raising kids from the inside out.
– Everything important starts and ends at home.
– The power of positive expectations.
– The art of the balancing act: work & family.
– Creating a united front with parenting.
– … and more!!
My copy of It’s Your Kid Not a Gerbil is completely marked and highlighted. I plan to refer to it often, and you might even see me covering a few topics I have learned in his book – shared on here!

Love the title! That’s exactly what kids look like when they go from one organized after-school activity to another. Looking forward to reading his arguments for persuading parents to get off the treadmill. None of my arguments are effective in changing minds of friends caught in rat race!

This book sounds fantastic! We have purposefully cut some things out our schedule this fall but still feel overwhelmed with the amounts of activities. I want my kids to have time to PLAYand not be rushing from one thing to the next. Sounds like this book would be a great read!!
