- Notice how your thoughts create your feelings. When you feel angry, overwhelmed, or anxious, check to see what you are thinking. Where is your mind directed?
- Listen to how often you blame others. Carefully note any “make me” langauge. Notice how often you say, “Don’t make me __” or “You made me ___.” Replace “Don’t make me ___” with “I’m going to ___.”
- When you are upset, say, “I feel angry, and it is okay.” Accept all your feelings. They are signals. Anger is a signal that you need a change. Take a deep breath and say, “I am willing to see this differently.”
- Remind yourself, “Whomever is in charge of my feelings is in charge of me.” Take back yoru power by owning your own upset. To own your own upset, say to yourself, “Each day, hour, every moment, I choose the sounds I want to hear, the sights I want to see, the actions I want to focus on.”
- When you are upset, you have a problem.
