Famous Footwear is challenging everyone to Step Forward by championing their confidence to be their best self. The confidence to Step Forward to keep pushing toward their personal goal to “#StepForward” in life. I have been challenged to share my step forward moment on how I found my self-confidence … again.
As a second grade teacher, I try my best to instill confidence in my students to push forward toward their personal best. I love that Famous Footwear contacted me to join their #StepForward campaign and share my personal story of gaining self-confidence.
When I was a stay-at-home mom, I wore workout clothes 24/7… whether I worked out or not. They were my go to wardrobe. I loved it and I was very comfortable wearing it. Yet somewhere along the lines I lost myself and my self-confidence was gone.
It wasn’t until I returned to the work force, when I was forced to shower, wear nice clothes, and put my face on each day that I found myself again. My self-confidence in what I was able to accomplish and achieve sky rocketed. When I dressed to impress, I felt better about myself.
I am still a jeans and a t-shirt with tennis shoes type of girl… but when it comes to dressing for work and my teaching profession, I try to dress the part. Famous Footwear sent me a gift card to purchase a pair of ankle boots. I have been having my eye on this style of boots for a while, and was super excited to own a pair. I received the Madden Girl Women’s Wickker Bootie and I am a huge fan.
I loved the boots so much that I decided to take advantage of their online holiday sales and bought two more boots. They are super comfortable and I love how I can dress up a pair of skinny jeans and flannel. I look much more put together with these boots on rather than my well loved running shoes.
Ya’ll know that I am not a fashion-ista or a fashion blogger. I love to share with you my health and fitness journey. I personally believe that the #StepForward movement goes hand in hand with bettering oneself and feeling good about oneself.
I typically wear flats when I teach, so wearing boots (even super cute ankle booties) was an adjustment for me. Just like all things with change, there is an adjustment period of being uncomfortable. I am on my feet all day long and often get over 10,000 steps before I leave my classroom for home. My first time wearing my boots my feet were tired… I am proud to say that all the times I have worn my boots since, no foot pain!
Wearing these ankle booties give me a few more inches of confidence. It took me a few times wearing them for my feet to adjust… but once I did, I know wear them as a staple in my winter teaching wardrobe. My students notice and compliment me on my cute boots and even my fellow teachers notice the pep in my step.
My step forward moment is when I do something, even if it is a small something, to better myself to feel better about the skin that I am in.
When I dress up and I put on a pair of nice boots, I feel good. I look good. I find my self-confidence is up. Yet, I am the same person when I dress up and when I dress down. Stepping forward to better my outward appearance is one thing… stepping forward to better my inner confidence is another. I have found my joy again.
Doing good, being kind, and being a light to others is the type of step forward moment I want to instill in my children, my students, and ultimately myself.
Having confidence to do what is right… even if others are not following suit. Stepping forward in confidence to be better, do better, create better.
What makes you feel confident? What is your #StepForward moment?
