My experience with using Amwell Health to speak to a Registered Dietitian from the comfort of my own home! Thanks to FitFluential for giving me this opportunity.
As a busy mom who is transitioning to working full time, I find that I am neglecting my personal health. I have my health and fitness goals, but oftentimes find that I am confused and overwhelmed with what steps to take. Fitting in fitness, for me, is easier than focusing on proper nutrition. I have always wanted to meet with a registered dietitian and hear what they recommend.
I was given a free visit with an Amwell Registered Dietitian and I wanted to share my experience with you.
What is Amwell?
Amwell is the nation’s largest telehealth company, connecting users with board-certified, licensed doctors, dieticians and psychologists for immediate and live, online visits—day or night, on either mobile or desktop. Amwell doctors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are dedicated to keeping you healthy — all from the comfort of your home. This means no traffic, no waiting rooms, or more exposure to germs!
The whole process of registering for the account took me maybe 5-10 minutes. I was able to easily schedule an appointment with my Registered Dietitian, Maika. Once registered, I was sent a questionnaire to fill out so Maika could get to know me, my background, and my health and nutrition goals. She was knowledgeable and friendly. I was super excited to get started to map out a plan for better nutritional health.
About Amwell’s Registered Dietitians:
Amwell’s registered dietitians are experienced in sports nutrition and can provide individualized nutrition advice to help improve/enhance exercise and performance goals. The RD’s will work with clients to set realistic goals based on client’s health history and level of fitness and evaluate the client’s diet to determine nutrient inadequacies and areas for improvement. Amwell hires only registered dietitians who all must complete/comply with the following requirements:
· Hold a bachelor or master’s degree with concentration in nutrition/dietetics.
· Complete an accredited, supervised practice program in a clinical setting.
· Pass Commission on Dietetic Registration’s national examination.
· Complete 75 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every 5 years.
We discussed my nutritional struggles and how to combat them, healthy meal and snacking ideas, daily caloric goal intake as well as a break down for my IIFYM carbs/protein/fats. She recommended that I use a meal tracking program to measure and weigh my food so I can get a better grasp on portion control.
Our conversation and recommendations were emailed to me after our chat. I was ready, inspired, and motivated to make nutrition a priority again. It is amazing what accountability and a positive attitude can do!
