This post is sponsored by Spitfire Athlete Pro: Strength Training App for Women.
I am a busy mom and am often on the go. My days are often spent running errands, doing household chores, or more recently spending time in the classroom volunteering and subbing. I do not have a gym membership. Time is limited and of short supply. For me, my workouts are done at home in my garage or outside on the trails (running).
My home workouts are usually an old DVD workout system or a workout from an app on my iPad. I am finding that I like the portability of the strength training apps because it goes with me everywhere… because I am always on the go.
I have shared that I am trying to incorporate more strength training into my fitness plan, and am really excited to share and support this kickstarter campaign launching the app called Spitfire Athlete Pro: Strength Training App for Women
Fitness shouldn’t be about conforming to one ideal of beauty. It should be about building yourself mentally and physically and nourishing your mind and body. Spitfire Athlete wants to create a community of women building strength together, and to launch Spitfire Athlete Pro.
NEW TO THE WEIGHT ROOM? WE’RE HERE TO HELP
A Beginner Friendly Experience
We know what it is like to be the only woman in the weight room. To have trainers and men come up to you in the gym and tell you what to do or give you “advice”. It can be intimidating, infuriating and stressful.
Going to the gym with a training partner can make all the difference. That’s why with Spitfire Athlete Pro, you will be able to find a training partner from the Spitfire Community. We will connect you with other women in the community who are at a similar training level and live in the same area.
WHAT IS SPITFIRE ATHLETE PRO?
With Spitfire Athlete Pro you will be able to access brand new training plans for strength training, running, physique, and bodyweight strength training.
You will also be able to access exciting new features to help you take your training to the next level. You’ll be able to connect with spitfires near you so you can train at the gym together, and we’ll be able to customize your training based on your nutrition, sleep, and reproductive cycle data.

HOW IS SPITFIRE DIFFERENT THAN OTHER FITNESS APPS?
There are three different types of movement. First, you have “physical activity” which is any kind of movement. Second, you have “exercise” which is movement for the sake of movement, usually to work up a sweat or increase your heart rate. Third, you have “training” which is structured, intentional activity designed to achieve a specific goal.
Most fitness apps promote “physical activity” or “exercise”. Spitfire Athlete teaches you how to train. If you’re going to be committed to your health, why do randomized exercise when you can train? Your time is valuable and limited. Don’t waste it with random exercises when that exact same time could be used to make progress towards your goals.
You can help fund this kickstarter campaign to make the app Spitfire Athlete Pro: Strength Training App for Women a reality. They have a timeline with funding goals and rewards listed on their kickstarter website linked above in red.
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
I feel strength training is so important for women yet so many are afraid to step into the weight room. An app designed esp for women is a great idea!
Bri says
this looks like a cool app! If there was a way to combine it with a movement assessment via Sykpe or something that’d be awesome.
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
This app sounds awesome! Going to check out their kickstarter 🙂
Carmy says
What an interesting app! Sounds like a non-andriod app though. ):
Erin Parker says
Hey Carmy, that’s why we’re running this Kickstarter, to build an Android app. 🙂
Margo says
It looks like a great app and I love the look of real women as guides to fitness!
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs says
This looks like the Nike+ app, but WAY better. I like it!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
This is a great idea, but I think it would be important to have some in person instruction on the equipment for newbies.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
Sounds like a great program! Strength training is super important for so many reasons. Its a shame that so many women feel as though they can’t work out at the gym with the guys, when its just as important for us as it is for them.
Jenn says
This is a really cool app. I probably wouldn’t buy it just because I don’t work out at home very much, but I could see the appeal. Thanks for sharing!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
This is pretty cool. I’m one of those women that HATES going into the weight room. I don’t know why but I would rather poke myself in the eye than go in there, lol. I like doing weights, but I’m so intimidated. This sounds cool!
Mar @ Mar on the Run says
great idea! i get lazy strength training on my own though I have a gym membership so can take classes.
Marcia says
This sounds like a cool app. If there could be a component where someone could check your form, it would be even better.
MCM Mama Runs says
Sounds like a really cool app! I need to get back in the weight room and stop just running all the time.
jill conyers says
I’m not much of an app person but this looks like one I might actually download AND use.
Becki S says
This app looks really cool. I love the buddy feature, I know what kept me out of the gym was feeling like I would be the only one who didn’t know what to do or where things were.
courtney @ eat pray run dc says
anything that says “__ for runners” draws me in, lol. i’ve been trying to do some yoga and of course i keep my pure barre classes up for strength. apps make everything so convenient these days!
Patty @ Reach Your Peak says
Whoa this is pretty awesome. After my marathon, I fully intend to get back into the weightroom and lift heavy. This would be perfect for creating a plan, and also so many people always ask me what the best way to build up to a pullup is! Love it and hope they reach their kickstarter goals!
