Oh man! What a super fun and active weekend our family enjoyed. It was a beautiful weekend in Kansas City and we spent the majority of our time outdoors moving our bodies (or watching someone get exercise!). Oh the joys of fall in the Midwest.
Saturday was filled with outdoor play with neighbors and games.
My oldest had a soccer game, where he practiced his ball skills and has shown amazing improvement. The Outlaws did not win, but they played well.
After the soccer game, we came home briefly for lunch. We were only home for about an hour with just enough time to unpack from soccer and pack up again for football. The boys ate quickly and made good use of their free time to play football in our yard with their neighbor friends. You know, just 10 little boys playing two hand touch . Fun times.
Precious P had his flag football game. His team, the Longhorns, played a good game. They did not earn a win, but they had a few good plays and are learning the game and showing improvement. They just need to work on grabbing those flags! If they could tackle they would be awesome… they are there, but the flag slips through their hands every time.
We came home from P’s game and once again the boys were off playing with neighbors the rest of the day. They were exhausted. Mama was exhausted. It was a good day.
Sunday we skipped church. I wasn’t feeling well with a head cold (or allergies?). I was up for a casual family bike ride. While my husband was loading the bikes on the van, 5 extra boys came out of nowhere to play with my boys. Seriously. It was like they had a way to communicate! Ha. Kids were riding bikes, running out of their houses, and walking up the street. I love it. It WAS hilarious!
Reluctantly, we tore the boys away from their friends playing football. We went for a slow nice and easy 8 mile bike ride along the lake. It was a gorgeous day! There were lots of complaints of tired legs and only two wipe outs (same kid who wasn’t paying attention).
After our bike ride, we had 45 minutes to unload the van, prepare and eat lunch, and get ready for a fun birthday party. Amazingly the boys had no complaints (anymore) of being too tired when it came to an afternoon of more play with their friends.
All the boys. All the football, kickball and whiffle ball! It was fun to sit back and watch them delegate, make rules, and play together. They did great and had a ball!
Near the end of the birthday party, the boys decided to invite the mamas and girls (there were a few big sisters there too) to play ball against them. Girls won. It was a lot of fun!
In the car again, we headed home for less than an hour. It was just enough time to eat a quick dinner, rehearse and practice their Awana Bible verses, get their gear together and head back out for our last activity of the weekend: Awanas.
As the sun was setting (I wish the photo would show how pretty it really was!), I reflected on how I really do enjoy this season of my life. Busy, yes. I wouldn’t have it any other way!
We enjoyed an active and fun-filled weekend. The boys are in bed and I will be heading there shortly. This week will be another busy week of “Mommy Taxi” shuttling to practices, games, meetings, errands, substituting and more. Thank goodness for my Erin Condren Life Planner to keep me organized!
