When it comes to my health, weight loss and fitness journey, sometimes I feel like this slug I saw on my run last week.
I am not the fastest runner. I do not have super amazing fast results with my weight loss. I am not a super strong weight lifter.
I am average at best. Someone who is trying her hardest to reach her health, fitness and weight loss goals.
I am determined to keep moving forward. Slow and steady. Focused. I will reach my goal.
I need to keep pressing play. Keep pushing myself. Keep moving forward. Never giving up.
That same slug crossed the width of the trail (in an hour). He did it. Slow and steady. Focused determination.
It isn’t about how fast he went… but the sheer fact that he succeeded.
There were runners, walkers, bikers, animals and critters that caused road blocks with his destination… but he kept inching forward. He succeeded! He never gave up!!
There will be road blocks and obstacles that will get in the way of your goals. You need to stay strong, put your head down and push through. Stay focused. Keep moving forward.
You know what happened to that slug because of his slow and steady determination and focus!? We saw him on our return route on the other side!! He made it across to his destination. He didn’t give up.
I will succeed. You will succeed also! Keep moving forward towards your goal! You got this!
Phil 4:13 – “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.”
Gal 6:9 – ” … let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

I would never have thought to take inspiration from a slug, but you’re right, its journey is a great metaphor for our own lives. As long as I don’t have to touch it 🙂

I’ve been feeling sluggish lately as well, but this gives me hope! Even slugs can conquer their dreams ;-P. Seriously, though – this actually has given me a little kick of motivation. Thank you and keep it up!

We all face ups and downs with our fitness and our lives in general. But we just need to keep moving forward!

I don’t think I’ve actually ever seen a slug in real life. We all go through those weeks. The humidity doesn’t help either.

So, I’m a little terrified of things that slither (slugs, lizards, snakes) so I admit I covered my eyes and read this post between my fingers. But, I can get behind this analogy, even if it does involve a slug 😉

We all have to move at our own pace! Even the slug gets it done…

Love this. I think the same goes for turtles, they are all so determined, it’s what they need to do to survive. Such a parallel comparison! I think we all feel like slugs now and then, having ups and downs, but it’s our outlook that keeps pushing us forward!

Awesome analogy Rachel. Keep moving forward and never give up. Note to self sometimes needed.

Great analogy, I am not the fastest it I am determined. Slow and steady!

Love this! It’s so easy to get stuck in the comparison trap, wishing to be different or have things easier, but ya just got to keep your head down and OWN YOUR GAME. Even a millimeter at a time. 🙂

Hi Rachel,
This is my first visit to your blog and I am glad to be here. You are really an inspiration. I have bookmarked your blog for more running and fitness tips.

Girl I feel your pain.
I am a happily average runner, lifter, etc.
However, I am so pissed that I keep falling off the wagon, eating junk and sabotaging myself, so that I can’t get my weight under control. I do well for a while, the screw up again. Such a slug lately.
