It has been a wet and relatively cool June here in Kansas City. Our summer is slowly kicking off our adventures as we explore our new area as a family. Recently, we decided to take a family bike ride on a new-to-us bike trail near the lake. Always up for an adventure, our boys were excited to explore, ride fast and of course check out the high water levels on the lake from all the rain.
As all moms know, planning ahead is key! This applies in all areas of our life whether we are heading to the market, going for a bike ride, or playing in the sun. Planning ahead for our family bike ride meant I needed to fill up our hydration packs, bring a snack, make sure every one had their bike helmets and their bikes were ready (no flat tires) to go!
The sun was shining on this beautiful Sunday afternoon, so sunscreen was a MUST for our family. Moms know how important it is to make sun protection a priority. Sunscreen does more than protect against sunburns, it protects against long-term effects that are not always visible, like skin damage and skin cancer.
My poor skin was not taken care of when I was in my youth: all day in the sun and hours spent in the tanning bed has made my 35 year old skin look much older. It is my prayer and well intention to take care of and teach my boys to use sunscreen.
Thank goodness, Banana Boat® has my family covered! Their sun care products are tested in seven conditions – sun, pool water, ocean water, wind, sweat, sand and extreme heat – to provide safe and effective broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection for the entire family
Once our family had our Banana Boat ® sunscreen applied, our hydration packs positioned, and bike helmets on… we were ready to roll out on the trail for an afternoon of family fun!
The first 3 miles of our ride was fun with mini-races, watching the boats along the lake, listening to the super loud cicada bugs, and even seeing a few snakes along the trail.
Our ride got interrupted when we got to a section of the trail that was flooded from the lake.
There was no way we could ride on that part of the trial. We could ride up to higher ground near the campground and try to hop on to the trail on the other side of the lake.
The T-man was super curious and a little disappointed that the trail was covered in water. Although, I honestly think he was really wanting to jump in and play. That is… until he saw a water snake slither by in the water! I think that got us all searching for higher ground!
We rode for a few more miles, stopped to play at the campground playground, and then headed back to the car. We covered 7.5 miles together as a family. The flooded trails didn’t stop our family fun. The sunshine was a welcomed blessing after all the rain… and our sunscreen kept our skin safe and protected.
A little (lot of) water didn’t stop our family fun. The sunshine didn’t stop our family fun either… thanks to Banana Boat ® !

It’s a shame you ran into the flooded area but glad you got away from the snake! I always keep my Banana Boat with me to put on the kids when we go out to the park.

We love to gobon family bike rides snd I suspect our summer will be filled with them. We often go out towards the end of day when temperatures cool off a little and will sometime stop to roast marshmallows on the beach 🙂
