My monkeys thrive on adventure, fun, and new experiences. I would love to be the type of mom who could enjoy a day at home with her children and have a quiet, uneventful, boring day. That is not how my monkeys roll. Neither is it how my personality flows. We love adventure and seek it each day.
Finding and seeking new adventures requires a healthy appetite for learning, hunger for piling on the veggies, and moving our bodies! Adventure is out there… all you have to do is go look for it! My monkeys (and I) are always willing to go find fun.
The boys and I enjoy our weekly trip to our local library. They are a big fan of the non-fiction section of our library. One of these days they will find a chapter book that intrigues them. But for now, they are all about military books (all forms), animals, and history facts. I love that they love learning and reading.
After fueling our brain with the library, it was time to fuel our tummies. The boys and I are big fans of SUBWAY. In fact, any time we can eat out the boys are a big fan! I love that I can pile on the veggies and eat a healthy meal while on the go. The boys love their kids meals and challenge of trying new things.
I personally think they like having a bit of control when we eat at Subway. Having control over what veggies goes on their sub. The boys are making progress. The oldest loves adding veggies to his subs. The two younger boys are branching out with tomatoes and avocados. If only bacon was a veggie they would be all on that quest!
One of the easiest ways to #PileOnTheVeggies at SUBWAY is with the Fresh Fit menu; featuring tasty, heart-healthy choices for all ages. Kids get a special meal of their own, complete with a Fit Mini Sub (piled high with fresh veggies such as cucumbers and spinach), apple slices, and low-fat milk.
SUBWAY had a campaign with the Maleficent movie, that is in theaters now, encouraging kids to #PileOnTheVeggies for special powers like Maleficent. Check out Jared Vogel in this quick 30 second video encouraging my monkeys (and everyone)to pile on those veggies to have super powers like Maleficent.
We haven’t seen the movie yet… the boys want to… but I am hesitant as it looks kind of scary. Is it just me? Is it kid friendly? Would my boys ages 4, 6, 8 enjoy seeing Maleficent? If the answer is yes… they are eager to see it as soon as possible.
After our tummies were full, we were seeking adventure in nature. We sought out some fresh air and movement. We decided to hop a few miles south to explore, hike, and learn at the near River Preserve.
The boys and I enjoyed a nice and easy, flat, 2 mile hike together. We didn’t rush and we just enjoyed being out in nature exploring new sights and sounds as well as spotting critters. We saw many varying species of birds, bugs, lizards and even a snake!
Yes. Snake!
Thankfully our super hero powers we got from eating our veggies from SUBWAY lunch froze the snake with fear as we walked on by. No children or snake was harmed on this hike. Whew.
Once we were past the snake, our hike was relatively uneventful. No more creepy critters on the trail. Although we did use our imagination as we hiked and pretended we heard lions and tigers and bears! Oh my!
One of the things the boys (and I) love about the River Preserve is the nature center. It is a full hands on museum that the boys can learn and explore. They love to touch, feel, and play with the remains (bones, feathers, skins, fur) found around the preserve. I love that their little brains are learning even as they play.
It is also my hope that they are falling more in love with nature and wildlife with each adventure we seek and explore.
Every day is an adventure with my three monkeys. I am thankful they have a healthy appetite for life and are always seeking fun adventures to grow and learn from! Learning to fuel our mind, our bodies, and move! Life is an adventure and we need to have a healthy appetite to live it accordingly. Enjoy life.

I like to grill the veggies we grow in our garden over the summer, then we always have them on hand to top off sandwiches or pizzas. Can make an easy dinner at home more nutritious and filling. Plus who doesn’t love eating food they grew themselves!
