Happy Monday! Today the running community banded together to watch and cheer on the Boston Marathon. As a community, family, of runners this race and event is huge. It bonds us together with a common interest and heart… the love of running. We are resilient and never give up. We are strong. Running Strong. Boston Strong.
“This is beyond running, we are resilient and never give up.” Meb Keflezighi
Meb Keflezighi won and completed the Boston Marathon in 2:08:37. That is my half marathon finishing time. He ran 26.2 miles in the time it takes me to run half that distance! He is an amazing person, athlete, and I continue to be inspired by him!
This morning I watched the elite runners run the Boston Marathon while I was running (rather power walking) on the treadmill at my gym. I was totally that girl clapping, giggling, Whooping!! and at the end with tears streaming down her face.
Yes. I was a sight to be seen.
You see, even though I was running across the country… my heart was with those runners and the Boston community.
I may never run the Boston marathon, but I do know what it is like running a marathon… and join the community of other runners. I am energized, inspired, and alive when I am running.
My running has taken a curve ball the past few weeks as I embark up on MAF heart rate training. I am finding myself doing a lot more power walking than running (even though at times my power walk pace is faster than my running!?). This is humbling and requiring a LOT of patience from me in my training. I will not give up. I am strong. I am resilient. I will never give up on my goal of being healthy and running more efficiently.
Now, enough talk about the Boston Marathon… and onto my plan of attack on how I am going to reach my goal. In life there are many obstacles that stand in my way (and yours). When in reality obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal. Never take your eyes off your goal. We must work for it!
I have slacked off the past two weeks and am jumping back on the saddle… focusing on nutrition and fitness. When I make a plan I am more successful than when I just wing it.
Nutrition
Breakfast:
Nutrient Dense Shake (w/almond milk & fruit)
Snack:
hard boiled eggs & sweet potato
Lunch:
Green Salad w/protein and fruit
Snack:
avocado | tomato | feta = yum!
Dinner:
Protein w/ veggie
The key for me is to make sure I am drinking enough water and taking in adequate amounts of protein (as I have been slacking in those two departments). The darn Easter Bunny candy has invaded my house and I have been having portion control issues with the Reese’s Peanut butter Eggs. Guilty. You can check out two previous meal plans from the 21 Day Fix here: Week 1, Week 2.
Fitness
Monday: 5 miles + Core
Tuesday: 3 miles + Upper Body
Wednesday: Total Body + Core
Thursday: 3 miles + Lower Body
Friday:
Saturday: 5 easy
I know that you can not out train a bad diet, LORD knows I have tried! and FAILED time after time! One last Boston Marathon quote that struck a chord with me that I am leaving you with today… we can work hard at the gym (or during our workouts)… but what we do the 48 hours afterwards is what counts. OR even what we do during the 22 hours after our workout (the remainder of our day) is what really counts. Make it count.
“It is not only what you do at practice, it’s what you do in the 48 hours afterwards.” Meb Keflezighi
Here I am sharing my journey back on the wagon, inspired by the amazing athletes who ran Boston. Running because I can (because there are those who cannot). I am running strong. I am never giving up. I have shared my plan of attack and I will be successful.

I was thinking the same thing that he ran a marathon in my half marathon time!! Some of us are born to be elite runners and some of us are born to enjoy running. Good luck getting back on track! Pun intended!
Rachel says
Yes!! Love that! Some are born to be elite… while others of us (me and you) are born to enjoy running! And I do love to run! <3
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
I thought the exact same thing – I would have to push to run a half in that time. WOW. Amazing to watch and feel like a part of it though.
Rachel says
Yes!! I was running (or rather power walking) on the treadmill and in my head I was shouting “Run Meb! Run Meb! Go Meb!” But I really just wanted to shout it out! So often I was making these akward grunting sounds! LOL
Ashley Harding says
Yep…that is pretty much a good half marathon race for me. Amazing! Thanks for sharing. Let’s get back on track together and do this!
Rachel says
Amazing is right!! Yes. Commitment. Accountability. Teamwork. We can do this! 🙂
Terri says
Thank you for continuing to inspire me on my own journey. 🙂
Rachel says
You are very welcome! I firmly believe that we ALL are on a similar journey! I want to wish you the best of luck with yours!! 🙂
Patty @ Reach Your Peak says
I was there and it was truly such an amazing day!! Words can’t even describe it. I seriously want to run Boston one day now. A BQ is pretty far off though but my mom and I were so inspired…we will do it!!
I also didn’t even think about how Meb’s time is also my HALF time lol. He was running so fast! It was great to see him and Shalane come down the finish line stretch. Boylston Street was going crazy!
Rachel says
Oh I can ONLY imagine the energy and VIBE that was in Boston that day!! Ah-mazing!!
Janice says
Unfortunately I couldn’t watch the live feed (it wasn’t available in Canada) so I turned the @bostonmarathon twitter account tweet notifications on my phone. I was cheering everytime they tweeted an update and going crazy. My co-workers thought I was insane! The Boston Marathon always inspires me to run and train to be my best. In today’s interval pool workout I channled my inner Shalane – I said to myself, what would she do?
Rachel says
Awesome! Shalene is a pretty amazing athlete… as are you 🙂
Sandra Laflamme says
It was an amazing day to run! I was proud to be able to take part in such an emotional day. Keep up your own inspiration and reach for your goals!!!
