Happy Friday! Today’s FITspiration is my good friend, Tara! I met Tara through a fitness community on twitter. She has a fantastic fitness blog, facebook page for fitness, and even a tumblr account to help inspire others to get in shape, eat healthy and more!
Tell me a little bit about your fitness journey (i.e. past accomplishments, current activities, future goals).
My journey has been a twisted one that’s for sure. Was active as a child…my dad had my brother & I running at young age. Then in elementary school I held the school record for the most sit ups (ya know the full kind, not crunches that we did way back in the day before we got smart with crunches) in a minute…78 sit ups in a min..held that record for 10 years before someone else broke it. I tried out for American Gladiators (the original one) back in early 90’s. I used to do insane weight training, power lifting training in early 90’s. I ‘disappeared’ from fitness from about the end of 94 up until just recently (long horrid story that one day may be told). Now I’m getting back into power lifting and want to run Disney Half Marathon, but first I have a 5K coming up in November I’ll tackle.
What is your fitness LOVE?
Lifting! I love the power that comes with it. Being able to do walking lunges with a person sitting on your shoulders is a rush! But, I also enjoy yoga, running and biking too.
What is your ONE piece of fitness advice you find helpful to keep you motivated?
It’s not really advice but just a mind set that if I’m going to compete (be it 5K, half, power lifting, whatever) that I have to give it my all (even when I don’t feel like it) and do what’s gotta be done to place…no excuses…just get it done! On a more ‘mellow’ level, the thing that helps me is knowing that this is the one & only body I have so I need to take care of it and I’m an organ donor so at least when I’m gone whoever gets ‘parts’ of me should be getting good ones! lol
Tara is one of my fitness inspirations!
