I have been sharing my frustrations, displeasure, and dislike of the bathroom scale for some time now. To be very honest with you, I have only been actively living out one part of the weight loss equation, fitness.
My nutrition is better now than what it was a year ago… but it is nowhere near where I know that it can and should be.
My friend, Janice, suggested I go back to keeping a food journal – because that is what I did when I had success on the scale.
Since completing the boot camp, I have been experiencing a plateau in my weight loss. Throughout the week, my weight hovers between 142-145lbs.
Even though I would like to bust out of the weight loss plateau, I am totally okay with this, because I am seeing success elsewhere (just not the scale). I am running faster, running further, am stronger, feel better and am comfortable in my own skin.
This coming week, I plan on keeping a nutrition and fitness log with the hopes that I will find those areas where I am slacking (darn chocolate chip cookies).
My current bathroom scale has suffered the abuse of my children: jumping, moving, slamming, and driving (banging) trucks on.

I was super excited to have won an EatSmart GoFit Digital Scale from Freaking Fitness . I was curious to see what my weight would be on a newer more expensive scale.
Here is my Sunday morning (pre-church) weight:
Here is my Monday morning (pre-breakfast) weight:
As you can tell from the above four scale pics and FOUR DIFFERENT numbers – my weight fluctuates daily as well as from scale to scale! What a great reminder that the number on the scale does not define me or my success on this journey! I am to use that resource (scale) as a tool to help keep me on track and not fall off the wagon.
By the way, in case it isn’t obvious yet but I am really favoring my new EatSmart bathroom scale. She tends to like me too – look at those numbers! LOL

I love what you say at the end…the numbers don’t define you! A great reminder.

Ohhh rachel… I have them same issue. I jump on the scale 2 or three times during the day when I shouldnt. lol You got some good advice! I need to get back into the habit of journaling when I get other things straightened out…

I posted about something very similar in regards to the scale. When we have other means of measuring “success,” the scale becomes only one piece of the puzzle. I know you know that 😉 I’m glad you got a new scale! Go with it!

Indeed, the numbers do not define us! Thanks! (BTW, I love love LOVE my GoFit scale!)

That’s funny because I had a similar experience this week. I got on the scale and realized that I forgot to grab my camera and when I got back on it was 1 lb heavier. I guess the air I breathed in during those few seconds is high in calories…LOL. I am glad you are happier and running further, that must make you feel real good.

LOL Yep, I totally LOVE the new scale as well!! I was stuck on the same numbers as you have been for months and could not move past it. I started really tracking my calories and it has helped so much! I lost about 5lbs in a little over a month of tracking.
Have a great week!!

Such a good point and made in a great way. We are much more than that number – and that number is fickle.
Hang in there. Sounds like you’re doing good things!

Thar’s crazy that it doesn’t even vary by the same amount! Have a good week!

Isn’t it funny how weight can fluctuate so much!
From an outsider, you can see how much you have grown! You are a lot stronger than you know! You are a great inspiration for me when it comes to being a healthy momma!

The weird thing is that half marathon training and weight loss do not necessarily go hand in hand. Talk to fringies (jessica) about this. She won a consultation with Bob Greene some time last year. Have a great week.
