As a mom, I am very aware that my children are always watching me. They observe and learn MORE by what I DO than what I say. More often than not, they repeat and ACT OUT my worst mommy-moments in public. But sometimes they share with me a glimpse of the positive influence I have on them.
For Valentine’s Day, my 7 year old son wrote me a super sweet letter. On his letter he drew a photo of me. Check out my Mom muscles. #iWorkout . Obviously!
I also got a chuckle at my green torso. Apparently my ability to turn in the Hulk when Mommy is angry, didn’t get past him either. I am just thankful that when the Mommy hulk is angry… she feels the need to workout. Pick things up and put them down. The heavier weight the better. See… he does notice me working out.
I shared this image on facebook a few weeks ago. I love this image and the rewording of the above acronym. I long to be a MILF… a mom who instills lifelong fitness … or a mom who instills a LOVE of fitness. It is my hope and prayer that my boys are watching and learning all the good things and good examples I am teaching them… while forgetting all the bad.
I know that each and every day, I ask if my children are listening to me. Can they hear me!? But in reality… they might not always listen or hear me (because lets be honest, they are BOYS and KIDS). But I know they are always watching me. They are learning more from my actions than through my words.

I agree with this completely. I was kind of a couch potato as a kid and never really stuck with anything for long. I am so excited to see my little guy mimic me when I workout at home or pretend to do bicep curls when I say I’m going to the gym. I want to be a MILF too!

Such a good point to remember! How cute your son drew you lifting weights!

Finally, something a MILF can be proud of 🙂

Great post and so true. My kids come say the darndest things and I know most of them are from watching what I do. I am extremely proud when my kids make healthy choices, especially with foods. This has been a long process, but it’s awesome to see the results!

I just found your blog and needed to be reminded of this. My daughter’s only 9 months old and I fear her learning to throw tantrums may have something to do with my own meltdowns. Oh what a long toad it will be… Hopefully she learns how to clean the kitchen every night from me too so there’s some balance. 😉

I just found your blog Rachel and I have to tell you I think the kids are watching and learning! I am that MILF pictured above – and that is my 4th child about 2 years ago looking up at me in the picture. I do cross fit and started just after he was born – he has spent a lot of time at the gym along with his 2 older brothers (twins now 7) and sister (9). I have since been certified to coach cross fit kids and coach all of them. My youngest even comes out in the garage with me when I workout at home so he can do “his WOD” (workout of the day). They pick up more than we realize – hopefully more good than bad!

That is awesome! I am hopeful they are picking up my “good” more than bad! I loved crossfit when I tried it… but it was out of my budget. I should look into doing it more at home. 🙂
