DO you recycle? Do you teach you teach your children the value of taking care of their surroundings and belongings? Today I am going to dive into the topic of recycling.
Growing up, my parents instilled the value of recycling and taking care of (as well as the love of) nature. We recycled what we could. We learned to pick up after ourselves when we went for a hike or camped. We were taught that God gave us this Earth and we are to take care of it. Protect it. Clean it.
The U.S. has a recycling problem. We do. We live in such a blessed country with abundant resources… yet we are so wasteful. Recycling saves resources and reduces environmental impact. Many cities make it so easy to recycle … and get paid for it too!
I do my best to teach my boys to take care of our environment, recycle, and to clean up after themselves. Although it is a constant teaching lesson… I think they are getting it.
One thing that we do is while on our morning walks, we pick up recyclables that are tossed on the side of the road. We then take it home and put it in our recycling bin… to take to recycle later. We get paid to recycle. It might not be much, but sometimes it pays to clean up and recycle!
Recycling is super easy. Anyone can do it. Did you know that Arrowhead 100% Mountain Spring Water is sourced from carefully selected mountain springs. They are launching a Reborn™ 500mL bottle (made with 50% recycled plastic) and a campaign to encourage recycling. It’s important to remember the more plastic you recycle, the more recycled material Arrowhead can use.
You can learn more about the Arrowhead Recycling Is a Beautiful Thing by visiting their facebook page. While there feel free to click around and watch their other videos about how Arrowhead is spearheading a recycling initiative to encourage and promote recycling.
Recycling is one of the easiest and most beneficial ways we can all help the environment. Sadly, only about 30% of PET plastic bottles get recycled. For recycling to work, we all have to do our part.
Unfortunately, not all plastic bottles are made with recycled plastic. It’s Arrowheads goal to continue increasing the use of recycled materials in their bottles, but they need everyone’s help. Currently, there isn’t enough recycled plastic available for Arrowhead to make 100% rPET bottles.
Make recycling a part of your family’s routine.
1. U.S. plastic beverage bottle recycling rates are only at about 30%
2. 2.8 Billion plastic bottles ended up in California landfills in 2011
3. Even though a package says it is “100% recycleABLE”, that does not mean it is made with recyclED plastic. It just means it CAN BE recycled. In fact, most containers are not made of recycled plastic.
Recycled plastic is simply a better source of plastic. It’s part of Arrowhead’s ongoing commitment to preserving our natural springs, and ensures that every bit of Arrowhead, both inside and out, is truly Born Better. Better IS the new ReBorn Bottle – proof recycling works.
Now it is your turn. Do you recycle? Are you interested in reading more about what Arrowhead is up to and would like to learn more? Check out their facebook page for more information on the Recycling is a beautiful thing campaign!

I recycle everything I possibly can! My trash company makes things easy and provides us with a rolling toter that is nearly the size of our regular bin. I always take the extra effort to break down packaging and even toss toilet paper rolls into the recycling.

Great post. Thanks for sharing. We do our part here in DE to recycle and typically fill a 96 gallon recycling can every two weeks. With recycling I notice my trash level has decreased which is really cool and great for the environment.

I always recycle, it was a huge thing I was taught growing up. It is mandatory by law in NJ so that helps. Going to school in Delaware, they don’t have mandatory recycling so you have to drive your recyclables to a center. I can see why people are lazy and don’t care to do it. Making it convenient makes people recycle!

Yes we recycle! We joke that we recycle more things than we throw away. Every little bit helps!

I am a huge recycle-er/reuser/overall frugal/eco friendly person. It’s encouraging to see big companies embracing what needs to become a way of life for all of us!

Thanks for the reminder! We live in a large apartment building that doesn’t make it easy to recycle so sadly I don’t do as much as I could be. I’ll start stepping up my efforts so by the time the kids are of an age to understand they’ll have grown up with the idea.

I love this Rachel. And I especially love that you pick up recyclables on your walks. We do the same thing when we walk our dog everyday. Our kids tease us and call the bag we use for picking up bottles and cans is our “hobo bag.” (Very un-PC, I know.)
At home we use refillable water bottles and recycle everything we can. (Our recycle trash is always 2-3 times bigger than our trash trash.)

We are huge on recycling and haven’t bought bottled water in years. My kids enjoy taking the recyclables to the curb every week and putting them in the correct bins.
Tiff @ Babes and Kids says
I think recycling is definitely the way to go. It makes me sad to think about tons of plastic sitting at the bottom of our oceans because we are too lazy to recycle.
Tammy says
We do as much as we can – sometimes we forget and throw something away that could be recycled, but our recycle bin is full every other week when the recycle company comes to pick it up!

I live in a community where recycling is a big deal. I definitely recycle everything I can. Thanks for sharing!

I think FL should do the $.10 on cans I think more people would turn them in.

We try and recycle as much as possible and I always enjoy getting my kids involved.

You know — it amazes me how many people DON’T recycle. During my 5K today, I picked up the bags (from the color bombs) people were tossing onto the ground. It was SO frustrating to watch how many people just DIDN’T care. 🙁
