A few weeks ago, my husband and I took our first trip without kids. We spent a few days back east enjoying time together, sans kiddos, and spending time with old college friends.
While in Kansas City, we stayed at an amazing hotel, The Westin. I forgot how nice it was to sleep all night long. I didn’t have to worry about if the bed was made, towels clean and folded, or even if I needed to dust. Heck, I didn’t even have to cook a single meal all weekend! It was bliss!
The weekend was an enjoyable blur. On our flight home to California, we were already discussing our next grand adventure to get away and spend quality time together. This coming February would be 10 years of marital bliss, so we were already planning for our anniversary adventure.
My husband was throwing out ideas of Vegas, backpacking trips to the coast, camping at Tahoe and Alaskan cruises.
Thoroughly enjoying the lack of commitment the past weekend afforded me, I was throwing out more relaxing ideas. A weekend where we could lay by the beach, or someplace quiet, and get totally pampered.
A spa weekend where massages, facials, and activities specific for couples abound. A place where we can let our hair down, relax, and enjoy each others company. All without the distractions of work, children, household expectations, and life!
This spa weekend is just what the doctor ordered… for this tired mama. I would love to enjoy a side by side, couples massage with my husband. Perhaps even enjoy different activities to reconnect with my husband that are specifically designed for couples: hiking, biking, or just lounging in quiet… together.
Come to think of it, perhaps I have made my decision on how we will be spending our 10 year anniversary. Now to begin the travel planning for a unique spa couples weekend!

Wow, that DOES sound nice! In January it will be 12 years for us without ever having a vacation for 2 so I totally get the desire for some relaxation for 2. 🙂
