It is not often when I sit down to read a book… and finish it in a few short hours (in one day). This book is an easy, quick, interesting read! I started it midafternoon when my youngest was napping… and finished shortly before bedtime. And, no, I was not reading nonstop the rest of the afternoon.
I found that the book was easy to follow, engaging, and captivating.
A few months ago, the boys and I read the for kids version of this book. But it wasn’t until yesterday that I actually sat and read the adult version of the book.
A young boy emerges from life-saving surgery with remarkable stories of his visit to heaven.
Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn’t know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.
Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how “reaaally big” God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit “shoots down power” from heaven to help us.
Told by the father, but often in Colton’s own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.
Thank you, Mom, for letting me borrow this book. I enjoyed it, and highly recommend it.

Rachel, I absolutely loved this book! I read it after a group of five young men in our church were in a car accident driving home from our annual Bible Conference. Two of the boys went to heaven and the other three survived with injuries, each have healed to a different degree (one is paralyzed from the neck down but has gained some movement in his arms!). The book greatly encouraged me about heaven. It is for real! It brought tremendous hope and encouragement in a difficult time. We can’t wait for the reunion in heaven with these two amazing young men. I must agree with you- I also highly recommend this book. The book written for kids is excellent, too!
