When my husband and I first got married, we had grand dreams of golfing together.
My husband loves to golf.
Me!? Not so much.
Being the good, doting, wife that I was… I bought myself my own set of clubs and practiced at the range every chance I got. I was determined to be the cutest looking couple on the course who golfed together each weekend.
Then the reality set in and I gave in to the fact that I was terrible at golf. And quite frankly, it wasn’t my thing. I didn’t like it. I would much rather ride in the golf cart, drink a beer, and just be with my husband when he did what he enjoyed most… golf.
Here I am 10 years later and I still do not golf. Sadly, my husband doesn’t either. Not necessarily by choice… but more for the lack of time. Children have taken up our time, priorities, and golfing money. We make up for the golf dream by spending quality family time doing other activities: biking, hiking, camping, etc.
I think there is still a small part of my husband that would love to be a professional golfer. Wouldn’t it be nice to travel to an exotic destination, see the sights and hit a golf course while on vacation. It might not be my perfect vacation… but I know that my husband would be one happy camper.
Do you golf? Do you travel to special (highly ranked) golf courses? Do you golf with your significant other?

My husband started golfing when he was a kid and is a very low single digit handicap. I started as an adult to keep a girlfriend company but soon my husband wanted me to start golfing with him and we have been doing it happily for over 20 years. I am good enough to not embarrass myself with a low 2 digit handicap index. And we have gone on some awesome golf holidays all over Canada and the U.S.
We both prefer to walk and carry our clubs and beer has to wait till after we are done!
Have you tried taking lessons and giving it a real try?
And yes, it is time consuming but you could play 9 holes or executive length courses.

I very much enjoy the game…but not as much as my husband. I have to say it was me (and my family) who inspired him to pick up the game. And now he has the “bug.” We very much enjoy playing together though it is very difficult with kids. We try to make it a point to do so at least a few times per summer on the weekends. It is our mid-day date vs. date night. And although expensive (with greens fees and sitter), it is worth it because we enjoy it and don’t do it too often!

Haha! I dont’ golf. I am TOO cheap (and lack the funds). I too dont’ have the concentration… nor REAL desire to golf. Perhaps when I am retired and have the extra spending money (and time) I will learn and enjoy gofl. 🙂
