I am often asked the question, “How do you run when you have kids?” My answer is simply, I make time for it. When my husband is available (home) I often head out for a quick run by myself.
My husband knows me well enough that when I am given those few miles to myself to pound away at my thoughts, emotions, and feelings I often return a much happier, healthier person.
The above picture was taken by my husband this morning, at the end of my solo run. The temperature was a cool 70* and I was highly encouraged to go for a run… for the sake of my children and MY sanity today. Love my husband, he knows me so well!!
I wanted to stay at home, drink my coffee, make some yummy muffins and listen to the children play Super Heroes… but I knew that I needed to put me first and run.
I ran 3.72 miles this morning in 33 minutes… and conquered the I don’t wanna.
There are times when I am enjoying my solo run, and I get a severe case of the Running Road Block. I don’t feel like running. I don’t want to run. I just want to walk and not take advantage of the solo *kid free* time and not break a sweat. However, I know that when I keep moving forward that I can keep running… I can run the extra minute, mile, hill… I must just keep going.
The important lesson to learn is that we must keep moving forward. Do you have a fitness or weight loss goal? What is your plan set in motion to reach that goal?
What are you going to do to challenge yourself this week to just keep going?

Look at those leg muscles!! You totally rock. I’m inspired to get up each day and run because I feel so much better when I do and tend to be a bit more patient with everyone.

I have hit a major running road block. I have not run much since my last race. I think I have a fear because of my heat exhaustion episode. It is in my head, I know. I have been doing everything else but run. I need to run. I need to get up to a 10K mud run by Sept 10. I am not looking for speed that day just a steady pace. I will be going up and down muddy hills and crawling through mud and over rope walls, etc. So I am working on strength training to, but I will need to run a little. I plan on working in my runs again every other day. No excuses.

That seriously looks just like my neighborhood, and then when I saw that you live in N. CA, I’m even more convinced. Any chance it’s Lake CA?
By the way, I’ll take those leg muscles!!!

Renee… YES!! Are we REAL LIFE neighbors? 🙂
Rachel says
Renee… I think we know each other! I think I am the mom who sold you my single jogger (red) and picked your brain about homeschooling a few years ago! 🙂
Renee Harris says
YES! That’s me! We still use the stroller (although seriously showing signs of wear) – it looks like we both had babies since then. You have another boy! We were finally blessed with a girl after 6 boys and a girl. I’m so glad to hear that you’re homeschooling!

You ROCK! And I seriously love the picture of you running – look at the strength in those legs!! Rawr! Thank you for being such an inspiration to me!

I have to say one more thing here publicly – since I just discovered Rachel lives two blocks away from me…. she IS the real deal! Rachel, I’ve seen you running out there in hot weather and you just keep going. I need to get more serious about cardio and weights and you’ve inspired me.

That’s an awesome pic! You really look strong! I need to run or workout for my sanity too. There are days I am not very motivated to get it done but I know I will feel so much better afterwards and that my kids will be better off with a happier mom if I do.
