Oh. My. Goodness. The past 3 years have been a whirl wind of change in our family. Change consisting of our family moving cross country, the boys going to public school (no longer homeschooling), me returning to work full time in the classroom, and juggling the sports and social calendar of three active boys. Those changes alone have resulted in my running and fitness calendar to become less of a priority. My down time has been spent sitting along the sidelines of one of my children’s sporting events and cheering (LOUDLY!).
Returning to running has been a slow roll. I haven’t raced since the 2015 Boston Marathon. I haven’t run consistently since that training period. The longest I have run is 7 miles (and that had many walking breaks!).
I have learned to be okay with where I am in my own personal journey.
If I am only able to run/walk once a week on the weekends… that is great. I need to celebrate that fact.
If my as fast as I can run for 3 minutes running (and walking) pace is slower than my previous half marathon race pace… I need to celebrate that fact.
I am returning to running. Slowly.
My goals are not to win… but to enjoy the mile I am in. I am returning to running with a big smile on my face.

Completely respectable goals and plans. 🙂
Running has ebbs and flows, and it will always be there for us in some form. My life has been hectic and busy, I haven’t run as much distance this year but I hold onto the hope that I will again at some point!

I totally feel you! Life happens and lots of changes get in the way of your routine sometimes! This has happened to me countless times. I totally agree with the goal of enjoying the mile that you are in! It’s better to enjoy the journey than to burn yourself out and quit. Thanks for sharing!

I think what keeps me going is knowing how much harder it is to restart if you stop completely. Plus I love running! It’s my me time! It’s not really the pace that matters – it’s just getting my daily dose of inspiration from nature. If I’m too tired to run I can still enjoy a walk!

I think that is why most people despise running – because they push themselves too hard and never enjoy the journey.
Take it easy and have fun – the rest will follow.

Women are multitaskers anyway. Nice story.
