Winter is quickly approaching, and this boy mom is needing to organize and purchase everything needed for winter indoor play. Yes, my boys play outside year round but they still run amuck in my house like a caged animal. If only I had a padded room… do they make those?
Daylight is short and when we get home from school there is only an hour of daylight to play outdoors before it becomes unsafe. This is where my winter indoor preparation kit comes in to play… Mama’s ears and body needs to get winter ready!
The boys and I headed to our local Target and checked out the pharmacy aisle. They helped me pick out a few must have items to ease the indoor noise volume over the next few weeks. Motrin ® for the upcoming headaches from the loud noise, excessive volume from wrestling and arguments on who won the latest foosball match. Ear plugs to help muffle the loud music the boys blare when they have friends over. Tylenol PM ® when it is finally bedtime and my head is still throbbing from all the activity and noise.
Yes… these three items are my Must Haves for the Mommy Winter Tool Kit.
The boys are playing sports this winter: the oldest is playing basketball and the two little boys (pictured above) are playing indoor soccer. When they are not at practice or their game they are wrestling, running into each other, or playing ball in the house (which they are not supposed to do) they are getting their wiggles out in other ways.
This makes Mama not so happy…
However, when there is no sports practices or games on the schedule… and they are stuck in doors… my basement looks and sounds like a wild circus! In the photo below, the two little boys were supposed to be reading books and doing a calm activity getting ready for bed… Nope! They were wrestling and screaming like wild monkeys!
When winter weather strikes and my kids are inside… this causes headaches for myself and my husband. All the noise and activity in close quarters is not a happy combination (for adults). I am thankful for Motrin ® IB and Extra Strength TYLENOL ® to help relieve my headache caused from the loud noises my children make (not necessarily happy squeals) while playing indoors.
I am not advocating self-medicating in order to survive parenting in the winter months. I am merely suggesting that for me and my children, this mama knows that she relies on these products to survive the long cold indoor play of the winter months. #WhenIsSpring?
