Living a healthy and active lifestyle is important to myself and the members of my family. This includes our Daisy-girl. Our sweet pet. She is a member of our family. Our Daisy is 12 1/2 years old. She is no spring puppy, but when you see her out on our family walks or hikes you could easily mistaken her as a puppy. She has a lot of energy and is full of life.
As the person in charge of what healthy foods my family eats, I also need to make my pet nutrition a priority. Healthier together is best for every family member – human and dog.
Nulo and the BlogPawsTM Pet Influencer NetworkTM reached out to me a few weeks ago, asking if I would be interested in having Daisy try their line of dog food. I know that I personally love to try new healthy products, so I thought Daisy would also.
While running the boys to/from sporting events on the weekend, we stopped by our local PetSmart to pick up some yummy treats for Daisy.
I am easily distracted while shopping, easy to do when shopping with children, and accidentally grabbed my old girl puppy food. I decided to start her off on the soft (canned) food, her favorite.
She saw me setting up my props to prepare for this article and you could almost hear her shouting at me, “Mama come on already with those photos! Just give me the delicious contents!”
I carefully scooped out her portion for her to try. I thought it would be fitting for her to have chicken, carrots, and peas for dinner… since we were having a similar dinner. You know what they say, “Families that eat together…” or something like that.
Upon opening the can, one of the first things I was impressed to see what real peas and carrots!! It had that meat – baby food smell – and Daisy was going crazy. She was ready to dig in and try it!
From my perspective, it was hilarious! She sniffed and took one bite/lick. Once she had her first taste in her mouth her eyes got really big and she couldn’t get her food in her mouth fast enough.
Less than 5 minutes later her food was licked clean. The only thing left were straw dog hairs left in her food bowl.
Full tummy. Content heart. Ready to take an after dinner nap. She was very happy.
Some fun facts I have learned about Nulo that sets them apart from other brands:
Nulo blends are made and distributed in smaller batches to ensure they spend less time on the shelf and taste better when they land in the bowl.
Nulo‘s unique recipes uses fresh chicken, lamb and salmon and pairs them with yummy things like apples, carrots, lentils, and sweet potato.
Nulo’s products are handcrafted in the heartland of Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota and come from the highest quality, natural ingredients. So pretty local for our Kansas City area. Buy local works for my dog too.
We (she) just started using this new to us brand of dog food. Daisy was a huge fan last night.
As with all healthy living and lifestyle changes, sometimes adjusting to the new healthy food interesting changes occur. For example, this afternoon when I came home from work I noticed that Daisy had an accident. I am not sure if it was from her new diet or if she was in her crate for too long.
And… just like when we as humans choose a healthy lifestyle, change doesn’t happen over night. We need to be consistent and then reflect upon how we look/feel as we continue on the journey.
I will check back in and let you know how Daisy is doing with our new dog food plan … and our #healthiertogether journey.
Now… I need to do my menu planning and jump back on the fitness wagon.
Who wants to help me with that goal?!
Perhaps having my dog be featured in this article will be just the kick I need to join her on this healthy living journey.
