I think I need to change the title of this blog to: Rachel who wants to run but finds all the excuses in the book not to run.
Life lately and the changes going on in my life have left little time (or energy) to workout and run. Just being honest.
As you can tell, I am not running as much as I used to. It is not that I don’t want to… I do. I just don’t have the opportunity to run as much as I used to. Life is busy, kids are busy, I am working, and I need a treadmill (or childcare).
I love my new-normal of busy. It excites and energizes me. I love spending time in the classroom and running the boys to their sports practices. I do, but this new busy leaves little time for me to do me things.
For example, below is yesterday’s busy schedule. I had grand plans to fit in a workout, but it didn’t workout.
8:00 – drop off child at school for his reading club
8:15 – arrive at my school to substitute teach for the day
4:00 – boys arrive at my school and we leave
4:00-4:30 – visit and check out books at our local library
4:30-5:00 – arrive home to eat snacks and go through book bags
5:00 – head out and drive to basketball practice (boys reading their books for their daily minutes)
5:30-6:30 – basketball practice
30 minute drive home
7:00 – late dinner
7:00-8:15 – the mad rush of dinner, showers, brushing teeth, books, and bedtime
8:30-9:15 – I added a new load of laundry, did my reading for my college class, wrote a paper for my college class, paid a few bills, and read a chapter from my for fun book.
9:15 – shower and get ready for bed
I could have walked laps around the basketball court while P had his basketball practice. However, what would I do with my other two boys, unsupervised, when they desperately wanted to run and play. Sigh. Not an option. So… I sat and read a few chapters out of my book (for fun – not for class).
I researched prices of our local gym for a gym membership: $38 a month for a year commitment. For just me. No childcare. No pool. Pretty much just cardio and machines. No classes or commadre of friendship. This option doesn’t work for me because of my work schedule.
My option two (which I am leaning towards) is to purchase a treadmill. I have a plethora of workout DVDs and free weights. The research and options for treadmills is overwhelming. They are pricy and there are so many differing opinions of which brand/make/model is best. I am looking for a treadmill that will allow me to run. I don’t need anything fancy. Do you have any suggestions on brands and models you love?
I apologize to my friends who come here for running advise and tips. Right now, I am all out of them. I am full of excuses: it is cold, dark, wet, and frankly… I am tired. Ha!
I am in the market for a treadmill… and will be up and running again soon. No more excuses.

I bought a dreadmill 15 years ago. Still love it. Still use it. Outside running is more enjoyable, but you do what you gotta do, especially when your kids are young and need you close by.

I have a treadmill, however I dont use as much as I use to. I get up between 4-430 and meet my sister in a our little town to run. Luckily it is safe. I also workout at home on the other days. If I do not do first thing I get so busy with work and my girls

I have a TM and I love it. I get up at 5am to get my run in before getting the kids up for the bus and off to work myself. We have a NordickTrack 1750 Commerical. I would highly recommend it.
