As the year draws to a close, many of us are beginning to revamp our healthy living goals for the upcoming year. I know I am needing a reminder for healthy living… and am setting daily goals to live a healthy and happy lifestyle. Here are five healthy habits to start your year off on the right foot.
Water
Drink water. We know that drinking water is super important. It is what hydrates, cleanses, detoxes, and keeps us going through the day. Strive to drink half your body weight in ounces of water. For example, if you weight 150lbs you should aim to drink atleast 75oz of water a day.
Sleep
Sleep and rest is by far the most neglected healthy habit. We are so busy and rarely take time to rest, slow down, and sleep. When we sleep our body can heal, recoup, and recharge. When you are constantly going… you will eventually wear down (break down perhaps). Taking time for rest is important. Strive to get your 6-8 hours of sleep a night.
Movement
Move. Move. Move. Whether it is your goal of 5K steps a day. Walking 3 miles a day. Moving and doing something active for 30 minutes a day. Or challenging yourself with trying something new. Movement is a great healthy habit to incorporate into your busy daily life.
Do What You Love. Be Happy. Smile.
Do what you love. Love what you do. Be happy and smile. Smile and do things you enjoy: hobby, sport, activity. Doing things you love sends the feel good hormones to your brain. This lowers stress hormones and has a healthy effect on your body and mind. Take a few moments out of your day to do something you love, SMILE while doing it, have fun… and enjoy it!
Eat Breakfast
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is the meal that reboots your metabolism from a fasting state to a fat burning machine. Eating breakfast every morning will not only help fuel and power your day, but it will also help you feel better too.
Even on busy mornings, I enjoy serving Johnsonville® Fully Cooked Sausage TURKEY links to my boys. It has 70% less fat than USDA data for cooked pork sausage, 8g of protein per serving (2 links), no fillers, and no MSG. Awesome!
You can find this at your local WalMart in the breakfast meat section. These fully cooked breakfast sausages are in a clear package (not a box). These breakfast links come in 3 flavors, and each pack comes with 12 links.
For busy mornings, I find this super convenient because I can enjoy a high protein and flavorful taste to my morning in just 30 seconds. I can add this to my bagel, coffee and orange juice and I am good to go in a few short minutes. Healthy. Tasty. Fulfilled. Yum.
My almost 10 year old son loves these sausage links. In fact, I think he could eat the whole package by himself. Don’t worry, he didn’t… although he did want to.
