Oh man! What a week of highs and lows for me and our family. I am not sure if you have noticed, but it has been pretty quiet here the past week. I have been busy with life outside of the computer/internet braving the waters of our daily adventures.
Every day is an adventure (for everyone). My life is no different than yours. I just write mine down to share online. Ha.
Here is a quick recap of our high and lows from the past week… as I run through life one day at a time.
Thursday: The day started with a staff meeting before school and capping off with my 1st graders performing their super cute fall musical (at 7:30 that night). It was a day filled with highs and lows as I was torn between my professional and personal (family) responsibilities.
Friday: My school day was a typical day. Very busy. As soon as the boys and I arrived home from school my mood crashed to a low. My Precious P had a fever. I didn’t want to leave him for the weekend when he wasn’t feeling well… but knew he was in good hands. Boys weekend was going to have to be altered a bit, but Daddy had it covered.
Saturday – Sunday: I enjoy a much needed girls weekend with my mom and sisters in Branson. We bonded, enjoyed girl talk, shopping, riding roller coasters at Silver Dollar City, and had a great time with out husbands or kids. This was a high.
While out of town, my husband texts me early Sunday morning to tell me that our youngest had thrown up a few times in the night. Poor booger. LOW.
Monday – Wednesday: These days were honestly a blur. My husband was out of town on business all week, I was trying to plan for my youngest son’s birthday, and making sure the boys were healthy (and me too).
Thursday: Today is my youngest son’s 6th birthday. Poor booger, it didn’t go as well as he had planned.
Early morning staff meeting before school and the daily adventure of teaching. As I was supervising dismissal of my students to go home for the day, I received a call from my oldest son’s school. He had thrown up in class. LOW. I found myself scrambling with either finding someone to watch my son for me (husband out of town on business all week and no family near by) or get a sub and create last minute lesson plans. Thankfully one of my friends (who I watch her boys in the morning before school) was willing to have him camp out on her couch while I worked. High. Thankful for my tribe.
Friday: There was so many things going on at school that it was bananas. I dropped off my oldest at my friends house before heading to school. High – thankful for my friend for watching him so I could work.
I find that I am still trying to figure out this class (we are 3 weeks into the long term sub job) and pray that they stop pushing the envelope. Low. But I have never been more excited for a Friday! High! When my youngest walked to my classroom after school, I went out of the room to run a few quick errands: copies, talk to a few teachers, prepare for the upcoming week. When I returned, he was fast asleep on my rug… with a fever. Low.
Saturday: Thankfully everyone woke healthy (relatively) and in good moods. I had a solidly productive day, which made me very happy. High. High. I was able to focus my attention to the many things around my house: laundry, closet organization, cleaning, lesson finalization details for next week and more. Like all things with families of young children, they love to share their germs.
I was able to create and prepare my Thanksgiving craft that I will be doing with my 1st graders… with my kindergartener. I wanted to make sure that if he could do it… surely my 1st graders could too. Also, I wanted to see how long it would take him to do it… for my timing and pacing guide for the lesson. Success. High. Possible blog post coming this week sharing what I did with my class + lesson.
My middle son (who had the high fever last Friday) woke to throw up just as my husband and I were heading to bed. Low. Another sick kiddo. At least he had the wherewithal to make it to the toilet. high?
Sunday: No church for us, even though everyone was eating and acting normal. Bummer. Yeah for healthy kids again. High. I thought it would be fun to go for an easy family hike. It would be great to get some fresh air and sunshine. The LOW of the day was when all the trails around the lake were closed for a managed hunt. No outdoor hiking fun for our family. Bummer.
So here I sit and type. Sunday afternoon. Everyone is healthy… today. high. I pray that whatever germ or super bug that ran its course through the boys is gone. I pray that my husband and I do not get sick. I am thankful for health. I am thankful for my village.
Every day is an adventure. Each day is filled with many highs and lows. I am thankful for the high upswings because I know that with ever low, there will come a high around the corner.
How do YOU keep your family healthy during cold/flu season?
Sorry this post didn’t have many photos. Sick kiddos are not a very fun thing to share… so my words will have to suffice.

I use something called Wellness Formula. It’s inexpensive and you can find it at most health food stores. When I start feeling weak or travel I just pound it!
