Oh man. My hat goes off to all you working Mamas!! I have only been working part time as a substitute the past few days and I am beat at the end of the day! Finding time to fit in fitness is a challenge, for me at least.
When we are gone all day at school, home for an hour, then gone all evening at sports practices… it makes fitting in fitness a challenge. Once we get home (late) it is a juggle to eat dinner, get homework done, bedtime routine and go to bed. The days are a blur. As I lay in bed I wonder when and how I am able to fit in fitness… and go on a run that I desperately want.
Last week I worked 3 days, had an interview another day, and the free day I had an impromptu meeting with one of my son’s teachers. I worked out ONCE. Once. I did run with my son’s soccer team briefly… enough that I was glad I wore workout gear. Ha. But not enough to burn any real calories.
I DID go on a bike ride with my husband last night as the boys were at Awanas. 9 miles. It was nice… but not a super intense heart pumping ride.
This week, I am not sure what my fitness plan will be. I should be running and training for the Rock N Roll STL half marathon coming up in a few weeks. As a substitute teacher, my work schedule is flexible and completely impromptu based. I go when needed… and sometimes I don’t know I am working until RIGHT before.
I am learning to be flexible with my fitness.
I would LIKE to run this week.
I would LIKE to run an 8 miler mid week and a 5 miler tempo on the weekend.
I also know that life is unpredictable right now, and everything I do is with a #WYCWYC (what you can when you can) mentality.
When life gets busy, how do YOU fit in fitness?
Link up with Janice, Fitness Cheerleader, and I for #MotivateME Monday. This is where we share our fitness plan with others (or in my case, our fitness goal) each week.

Hopefully things balance out for you soon! My biggest thing is to try and fit my workout in earlier rather than later whenever possible. Otherwise sometimes the day just seems to run out of hours before I know it 🙂

Oh how I can relate to this so much except for the being on call part. Pretty much my only time to workout is before work. Although it sucks to be going to bed so early, and getting up early, it’s really nice when you’re on the sidelines of the sport of the night and realize that you already worked out today. I used to go on my lunch breaks, but I now work through them in order to get 1 day off every three weeks to catch up on housework. I know you can’t leave the house that early nor do you have a treadmill so perhaps you could do the BeachBody videos (bodypump) etc? Perhaps you could invest in an indoor trainer for your bike? There are lots of cycling videos available on YouTube? I’m sure you’ll find your groove soon, adjusting to change is HARD! Have a great week!

I am still working on it. If you figure out the secret let me know.

I hear ya Rachel! I went back to work full time after years of working freelance from home and Oh man I struggled SOoo badly at first with finding time to workout. For me I have to make an effort everyday to get it in, even if it means my alarm goes off at 4:45am. I’ve got a good balance now I workout on nights when my kids have sports practice and the other days I work out in the morning before life gets crazy.
