I have decided to join a handful of other bloggers today, showcasing what life is like behind the computer screen. Behind the blog: Day in the life. Every day is marked with some type of fun activity (my boys words, not necessarily my own). For the most part each day has the same main events: coffee, chores, errands, activity, fitness, and family.
If you are curious what crazy adventures happen behind the screen in the household at Running Rachel… you can follow me on snapchat (RunningRachel1), periscope (RunningRachel), or facebook. Here is what happened this week… a day in my life.
Coffee and Jesus
I like to start my day off with a warm cup of coffee and a lot of Jesus. Parenting isn’t for the weak and weary, and this mama needs Jesus on her side… or else I grow horns and am not a pleasant person to be around. Just being honest. Coffee is good… Jesus is a must.
I am not a fan of straight black coffee… I need a little something in it each morning. I have really enjoyed the Califia Farms Almond Milk Vanilla Creamer (1Tbsp) with a few drops of the Peppermint NuStevia. Yum.
I am still reading (and re-reading) Lysa Terkeurst’s book The Best Yes and Made to Crave. I really like how easy it is to read and how I feel like she is speaking directly to me!
Laundry. Always laundry!
There is a never-ending amount of laundry in my household. Just when I think I am finished, I see another load upstairs waiting for me. OR beds need to be stripped, towels changed over, or the boys come in from playing a muddy mess.
After my coffee and Jesus, I head to the laundry room and switch loads (wash to dry, dry to fold). The vicious cycle begins. The more laundry gets done the longer we stay at home… otherwise sometimes laundry stays in the washing machine for a stinky while. Woopsie.
Computer Work
I love social media, emails and blogging. I really do. I try to get the majority of my computer work done before the boys wake up (they are early risers – before 6AM).
During this time I reply to emails, schedule social media, and draft or write articles. Some days I am super motivated… other days I just find myself mindlessly scrolling my facebook feed. Ha! Guilty.
Notice that I am still in my jammies (oversized old husband freebie shirt) when I get work done. Ha! Thank goodness I don’t do video calls in the early morning. Heck, I don’t even wear make-up or dress in nice clothes during the waking hours… hello workout clothes!
Errands. LOTS of them.
On our agenda was LOTS of errands. I got dressed: workout capris and an old race shirt. Clipped my wild hair (from going to bed with wet hair from my shower) back and no makeup. Ha! Keeping it classy for you, Kansas City!
Gotta love the first of the month and end of summer (back-to-school) crunch! Our first stop was the library. The boys and I picked out a handful of books to read and enjoy for the week. We visit our local library weekly (we love it).
Next we ventured to Kohls, Target and Walmart. We purchased the last of our school supplies (hello Star Wars and Paw Patrol backpacks!) and a few household items. Whew!
Lunch stop at Panera Bread. Yum
When we were done with the above errands, we were hungry. It is never smart to go grocery shopping while hungry, so we made a quick stop at Panera for lunch.
I got the Mediterranean Veggie on Tomato Basil 1/2 sandwich with broccoli cheddar soup. It is a big favorite of ours! The boys love their macaroni and cheese. My oldest is now eating a FULL adult sized meal (and half of mine). Sigh. Always eating!
Grocery Shopping
Next I braved the grocery store with the three boys. You would think I would take my own advice about shopping with kids, nope… my brain failed me on this day. I was unorganized, not prepared, and flustered. They were wild monkeys! I apologize if you were privy to our chaos while shopping.
Fitting in Fitness
After our errands, we unloaded the van and the boys ran off to play with their neighbor friends. This left me a few quiet moments to reply to emails quickly, switch the laundry, and bust out a 20 minute upper body strength circuit from JillFit.
Her workout was from the #20x20Challenge. There was a lot of shoulder work, rows, push-ups, and presses. My shoulders were shredded after the workout! It felt great. During my workout, I sported my new outfit I purchased at DICK’s Sporting Goods. I am wearing CALIA leggings (aren’t they so cute!? I love the pattern and ombre effect) and a super cute and comfortable Nike sheer top.
Dinner with the Boys
The start of our fall sports season means long evenings of sports practices during the week. Tonight was one of those nights. I decided to prep and serve the boys an early dinner before practice. We would eat again after practice (late for us) with Daddy when everyone was home together.
Soccer and Football practice
I love seeing my boys learn and grow as they embrace a new sport each season. Well, my middle son decided to try a new sport – football. The other two boys will be playing soccer again. No complaints from me! I love their soccer coach (they have the same coach).
Football is a new sport for our family… and it means lots of new things to learn, people to meet, and schedules to juggle. My head is spinning after our first meeting… and my calendar is getting filled quickly by the color blue (the color assigned to my precious P).
Second Dinner
Second dinner was super late because of football and soccer practice. We didn’t get home until almost 8. Which meant three always hungry and tired boys and two tired parents.
The boys either had seconds from the meal served before practice, PB&J, or opted for cereal and fruit. I enjoyed a yummy chocolate protein bar.
Bedtime Routine
Bedtime routine was quick because of the late dinner. It was a quick rush through showers and books before everyone finally was in bed (not sleeping) a little after 9. Mama was exhausted and just needed silence and time to decompress.
Quiet Time
After the house was asleep, I switched the laundry out for the night, took my shower and enjoyed watching a short show with my husband. We watched the Jim Gaffigan Show. Oh how we giggled. A slap stick silly show was a perfect ending to the hustle and bustle of the day.
Bedtime
Our family goes to bed earlier than most… I think it is because our house wakes earlier than most. Lights out and bedtime was around 10PM. Ready to prepare for another busy day (similar to the one I shared above) for tomorrow.
Life is one big adventure. Thanks for reading and taking a glimpse into the behind the scenes of our daily life. Feel free to check out some other bloggers who participated in the Daily Life themed link up today!

You are one busy mama! I included the crazy mountain of laundry in my post too 🙂
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
I’m pretty much always in bed by 10. I’m an early riser and much more productive in the mornings.
Your day certainly looks busy!
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
your kids do keep you busy! There is never a shortage of laundry and food shopping & eating around here too!
Debbie @ Coach Debbie Runs says
I love reading your posts about your boys. Mine are long grown, but it brings back memories. Such handfuls!
Now don’t hate me, but I am a fortunate woman whose husband does most of the laundry. I do my own personal stuff, but he usually does everything else. Lucky, I know. Of course we don’t have kids at home, but we do have seven dogs. They’re pretty messy 🙂
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs says
I love your mug!
And peppermint stevia?! I need to see if I can find that, it sounds awesome.
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
You lead quite the busy life! Laundry is the bane of my existence. I don’t have my own washer/dryer in my apartment which makes it even more of a chore to schlep down to the communal basement and try to snag a machine. Having my own washer/dryer would be AMAZING! haha

WOW! I cannot imagine having all of these people and jobs to look after and you seem to to do them so well! Fun to peek into your day!

But you do it all with a smile 🙂
What a busy life as a mom…
Where did you get that mug? I kinda need one!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I think most of us could benefit from a laundry fairy. Its just never ending!

you are one busy lady! I love getting an inside look into other blogger’s day.

Whew! Laundry is never ending around here too! My littlest wakes up screaming at 5…so I’d have to get up at 4 to get anything done–and I’m actually contemplating it! Great job fitting it all in…you’re motivating me to be more structured right now!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Oh I am so glad to know I’m not alone on the laundry front, or the errands or the sports! We are becoming a baseball family and I love it!! And OMG, I just bought those Calia capris last night and am totally obsessed with them!!

Reading this reminds me of how busy I was when the boys were little! I’m still busy but it’s a different kind of busy now that they are older…

Oh, the laundry! My nemesis 😉 And my kids are obsessed with Panera Bread — I think it’s their favorite restaurant (and who am I kidding, I love it too).

I love seeing people’s day in the life posts! I can totally relate to wanting to be productive and just ending up scrolling on facebook lol. I will wake up some days and be like I WILL CONQUER EVERYTHING I NEED TO DO! and then end up actually not doing much haha
