New week. New plan. Backtracking and refocusing. Virtual running. And so much more!
Last week I set out with grand intentions to work on my speed work by doing the C25K running program. Somewhere between running at fast(er) speeds, playing with the boys, and parenting… I found myself with an odd twinge in my hamstring. I also have a tender spot on top of my left ankle. AND My left heel is super inflamed. Ya know, just complaining but sometimes I feel like my body is falling apart one limb (my left leg) at a time.
The funny (?) thing is that there is no pain when I am running. I only feel the wonkiness in my leg/ankle/foot when I am walking or playing with the boys. Weird. I know!
I am going to focus on stretching, foam rolling, and strength training. I will continue to run… but at this point I don’t want to aggravate anything further. I will continue to listen to my body.
Last Week’s Training:
Monday: 5.13 mile run
Tuesday: 4.08 mile run
Wednesday: C25K D1
Thursday: C25K D2
Friday: C25K D3
Saturday: DB BH BF OTM workout
Sunday: Easy 2.71 mile solo trial run
I am still interested in heart rate training, but find that the heat and humidity is getting the best of me. I decided to put the C25K speed work training on hold… and focus more on endurance and listening to my heart. I broke out my Polar RC3 GPS and downloaded a 4 week training program. Hopefully I will see growth, speed, aerobic endurance, and mental strength over the next 4 weeks.
This Week’s Training:
Monday: 35 minute Interval Run
Tuesday: Strength
Wednesday: 50 minute Interval Run
Thursday: Strength
Friday: 40 minute HILLY run
Saturday: 1:20 LSD run

Have you ever considered seeing a sports med chiro. I swear my guy has been a lifesaver. I was sure I was falling apart bit by bit until I started seeing him. I would highly suggest someone who uses ART (active release therapy).

I haven’t… but I will look into it. I am still new to my area (5 months). I do have a chiropractor (he was the resident chiro for the US Olympic Soccer team) so I would think he has sports knowledge. I will give him a call this morning. My left foot/ankle is still wonky (weird that there is no pain when walking/running… just flexing [toe pointing up and out])

O I love virtual races! Maybe because a virtual race was my first (and only) race! If I was able to run right now I would so join in!

Definitely a good idea to listen to your body. If it says ease off the running for a while, then that’s what you have to do. Hope you get rid of the twinges and aggravations. You’ll have a better week’s running next week 🙂
