Happy National Running Day! I love that the love of running has its own holiday, today June 3rd! It has been a super wet spring here in Kansas City. Perhaps I am not used to all this moisture falling from the sky (being that we recently moved from California)… but to me it seems like it is always raining here!
Yesterday I enjoyed a quick solo 4.5 miles on a road less traveled. I decided to run on some paved country roads near my house. I am trying out a new pair of shoes (and will be reviewing and sharing with you in the coming weeks) and didn’t want to get them muddy from the trial.
There was minimal vehicle traffic on the road. I only saw a handful of farm trucks zipping past me. I think they were more curious as to what I was doing running on the road that is almost always empty. Surprise! Just me running.
When I am on my run, there are always some amazing views and sights that I would love to share with you. Unfortunately, I do not run with a go pro or have a camera crew that follows me. So… I have learned to get creative with my mid-run photos. I am a big fan of using an app called BurstMode which is pretty much a self timer app that shoots 100 photos in less than 5 seconds.
When the angle of my camera doesn’t get the photo I am going for, sometimes I have to get creative. Take yesterday for example, I really wanted to get the water tower and the growing corn in the background of me running… but I needed to get my phone higher off the ground. I decided to get creative by using my running belt as a tri-pod of sorts for my phone.
Of course, as I was trying to get my camera in place set just for the right angle not one but TWO trucks zoomed by me. I am sure they gave me the funniest look as I was standing in knee deep grass fiddling with this piece of wood. Ha! Oh well, I never said I was normal.
I didn’t exactly capture the exact image I had in my head… but it was good enough for me.
You see, running is always an adventure for me. I run for fun. I run because I can. Running the road less traveled isn’t always easy or popular… but the views and life lessons learned along the way are priceless.
If you run, do you run the same route each time?
When was the last time you ran a new-to-you route or trail?
If you are like me and like to take photos mid run… what are you best tips, tricks or smart phone apps!?

LOL! Using your belt as a tripod is quite creative! We runners are getting real creative when it comes to taking running shots haha

I try to mix up my routes between a few different options – but I since I live in a big city, I tend to stick to the few where I’m not running through traffic or having to stop at a million lights.

I need to figure out how to take pics of myself running! I try to stick to the same routes near me but do branch out on occasion and for longer runs. It’s been raining in DC for daaaays!

I like to run the Magic City when I’m not on the trail. We have several trails/parks that connect so it’s nice scenery so I won’t get bored. Using your belt as a tripod is probably safer than keeping a selfie-stick on you!

I like to switch it up a bit, but I seem to all back to the same few usual routes.

So creative – I can never figure out how to take action shots… now i know 🙂

Ha! I’ve used that app too. Try doing it in the middle of the city…talk about weird looks 🙂

it has also been very rainy here in Colorado it still looked like a nice path you ran on. I can never get taking pictures while running right!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I have yet to master how to effectively take a midrun photo with my phone without stopping (it never focuses!). However, I have a cheap Canon Point and Shoot that I take to races with me, and it does a fantastic job focusing even when I’m running.

love the pic that you managed to set up! that takes skill for sure.
i always try to do a different route, but sometimes thats just not possible. if i had a car i would definitely drive somewhere and do a fun run elsewhere

I love how you took that picture! I always wonder how other runners get their photos of themselves running, usually I recruit my hubby!

Happy belated National Running Day! Lately I’ve been running with my 2 running buddies but truthfully I prefer solo runs, I LOVE the time to myself to THINK.
