Our family enjoyed a fun-filled and activity-filled weekend. It was filled with soccer games, solo running (me), fishing, biking and exploring. We have been in Missouri for a little over 2 months now and we are enjoying finding our groove. Making memories and always going on an adventure is what makes our weekend’s fun.
Both big boys had soccer games (at the same time) Saturday morning. My husband and I split up parenting duties and each watched a different game (on opposite sides of Kansas City). The boys had a great game and love playing the sport.
After the game, we all arrived home and had lunch. After lunch we split parenting duties again… I enjoyed my last long solo run before Boston while Daddy took the boys fishing at the lake.
My run was slow and steady. Very comfortable. Yet at the same time my body felt tired and sluggish. Not sure what that is all about.. but I am going to be sure to take it easy this week.
While I was running, Big C caught his first fish. A small mouth bass. He was too the moon excited.
Precious P was determined to catch his own fish too. He is, however, the master at getting his line tangled with each cast. Oh the joys of fishing with young children.
While the big boys were fishing, T-man found a family of ants that decided to climb all over him. That was the end of his fun adventure fishing with daddy. He was done. (No pictures of a freaked out ant covered T).
Sunday morning had a rainy start. By the afternoon the clouds parted and the boys energy rose. We loaded up the bikes and headed to the trail for some miles together on the bike trail. We rode 8.25 miles. They did great!
I think the break for a snack, water, and time to throw rocks in the lake around mile 5 helped them too. It was super windy… they were having fun practicing skipping rocks on the waves.
Before we knew it the weekend was over and it was time to start yet another busy week. I love weekend’s where we spend time together as a family… outdoors… making memories. I look forward to making more memories on our many adventures this spring and summer.

Other than the ants, looks like a great time! Love the picture of the first fish. I remember mine too so I am sure your son will be thrilled to have this picture when he gets old especially!
Rachel says
Thank you! Awesome.. I hope he treasures the photo when he gets older too! 🙂

I find my body does weird things during a taper, and I do my best to try and ignore the weird things.
I ran up a lot of hills in a local park and it was awesome!
Rachel says
Way to go with the hill repeats… and yes, I need to ignore those ‘weird’ things my body is screaming at me this week.
Jen @ pretty little grub says
I love family weekends too but they always seem to go by too fast.
Rachel says
Yes. Those two days ALWAYS fly by! 🙂
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Love it! I sure miss those days when my boys were little….lots of great memories!
Rachel says
Thanks. I think that is why I am so prone to share and take photos of these moments… so I can look back and remember those precious moments AND how little they once were. 😉

I took my RRCA course this weekend. Very long w lots of info. Hope to take the exam this week. So excited to hear about Boston. I love reading people’s accounts of their race there-I know I will never run it but would also be fun to watch sometime. Good luck and enjoy every minute
Rachel says
Oh how awesome! I do want to get RRCA certified soon. It is totally a bucket list item for me. 🙂 I look forward to hearing how you think the test is!

Oh i remember teaching my friends kids how to fish when they were little. It’s so fun to watch their face when they actually catch one! Love it! That’s so great you made it 8 miles with the kids! They are troopers!
Rachel says
Yes, my boys ARE troopers. Perfect word. 😉 I think the snack break and rock throwing break at mile 5 helped too 😉
RFC says
Love the family bike riding picture! I spent the weekend working, blah. But the boring weekends make the adventurous weekends that much more fun, right?! 😉
Rachel says
Thank you. And boo for working all weekend… but yes, it makes the FUN weekends full of adventure THAT MUCH MORE SO fun. 😉

I love how active your family is! Sounds like you had a lovely weekend.
Rachel says
Thank you. I like how active we are too… outdoors and movement are my happy place. 🙂
Carmy says
Clearly I need a lesson from your kiddo. I haven’t caught a fish ever!
Rachel says
I think it was pure luck! Ha! My husband said that the fish bit the lure as he was reeling in the line (super close to shore). 😉
Katie @ Huff 'n Puff to Buff 'n Tough says
Sound like you had a good weekend with the family! I think it’s time for me to break out the fishing poles as it’s getting warmer in my neck of the woods.
steph says
Oh my, poor T!!! He and my O are so alike. Just sub ants for rabbit poo and you have our house 😉
GiselleR @ Diary of an ExSloth says
I spent most of the weekend studying. It’s exam season so my school books have pretty much become my life. Also, not sure I ever voluntarily went fishing but I used to go with my grandfather when I was younger. Never caught anything though…maybe that’s why I didn’t like going? haha
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
First fish, so awesome!
