What a difference a week makes! Last week it was snowing and below freezing temperatures. This week it is blue skies, sunshine and temperatures in the mid 50’s! I am very happy to report that hopefully spring has sprung! I dare say I even saw new green growth on my trail runs this weekend! Yay for warmer weather!
Last week’s training was hit and miss. The weather was bitter cold and I couldn’t justify me heading out for a run while pushing T in the jogger to freeze… so I am counting it as a recovery/low mileage week.
Last Week’s Training Plan (What I Did) :
Monday: 1 mile walk (bitter cold) + BodyPump&Burn
Tuesday:
Wednesday: 1.5 mile run (too cold) + BodyPump Challenge
Thursday:
Friday: 7.8 mile run while pushing T in jogger
Saturday:
Sunday: 13 mile solo run
This week I have high hopes to follow the plan and get the necessary miles under my feet. I have less than 6 weeks to Boston and these next few weeks are my peak training weeks before my taper! Yay!
I am at that point in my training where I am second guessing my training (or lack there of), comparing myself to other runners and my teammates, and playing the what if game. Sigh. I know I will be able to complete the race… how strong I finish is the uncertain answer. Always.
I have been enjoying running on a particular trail near my house. It is wooded and secluded with lots of challenging rolling hills. These hills are not my friend… but I find that they are making me stronger. I am a stronger runner both physically and mentally. Oh how I wish a photo or video could accurately capture the intensity of these hills… they are no fun.
I have not been putting in speedwork or many tempo miles this training cycle. My excuses have been solo parenting, the cold weather, pushing T in the jogger or the hills. Well… my excuses are still here and I know it is too late to really get any solid changes in… but my goal is to atleast work on trying. As always, all my mid-week runs will be done while pushing T in the jogger on the hilly paved trails near my house.
This Week’s Training Plan (What I plan to do) :
Monday: 1 mile easy (power walk) + BodyPump (Pump&Burn)
Tuesday: 20/7 Yassos/20 w/stroller
Wednesday: BodyPump Challenge + Core
Thursday: Tempo w/stroller (30/20/15) Yikes!
Friday: PiYo
Saturday: active rest
Sunday: 18-20 miles (solo)
In addition to making sure I am getting the necessary key runs in … I am going to focus on staying hydrated, fueling my body properly, and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine! I am loving my view on my runs lately as I watch the lake start to thaw and de-ice!

Looks like a great week, Rachel. It has been Spring here for well over a month. My city is in full bloom with Spring flowers and flowering fruit trees. When it’s windy, it snows pink petals!
Body Pump? Do you do it at home or go to a gym? I love Body Pump.

Good work! You are doing good and Boston is going to be amazing. Don’t doubt your training and your EXPERIENCE. I do not envy your cold but I do love your views! We’ve had unreasonably awesome weather and I’m am SO glad for it. So is Moxie. 😀

That trail looks like a great place to run! And it is warming up here this week too! Yay!

One week definitely makes a huge difference, although its very odd still seeing snow on the ground when its 60 degrees outside!

Honestly I think hills can be just as effective as speed work if not more sometimes!!

You will do great at Boston! I am so happy for warmer weather- even though it’s going to be raining here all week at least it won’t be freezing 🙂

This is the week it will finally warm up! It HAS to be!

What beautiful scenery! I hate the comparison game, but it’s so easy to fall into that trap. Hope you have a great week!

Awesome training week. Once I stopped fighting and dreading hill workouts I actually started liking the challenge. A new perspective on hills!

At this point, I wouldn’t worry about the training. Speed or otherwise, you’ll be ready for this. You’re a fierce runner and you’ll be surrounded by a lot of amazing runners of all skill levels. Yes, many are lightening fast but who cares? You get to be part of one of the most celebrated marathons in the world. Soak up this amazing moment and run like the BAMR you are 🙂

The weather is finally warming up! You just reminded me to get back to body pump. Now that I’ve been running again it’s been hard to balance strength and running, I’m always bad at that!

Our kids have definitely enjoyed this warmup. We are supposed to hit 50 this week then drop back down and up. I see spring right around the corner and can’t wait to hit the trails near us!
*I’m a VERY newbie running blogger. Looking forward to reading more of your blog!
