I have shared before, that I need something to challenge and stretch me when it comes to my fitness. I love running… but I also know the value and importance of adding strength training. Wandering around the gym floor trying to find something to lift, guessing at weights and reps isn’t that much fun. Enter my new challenge… for six weeks… or until we move (which ever comes first).
A few of my local girlfriends have been raving about the awesome workout and butt kicking they have been getting at Pure Form PFT Elk Grove. I was intrigued by all that they shared: group workouts by a personal trainer, mainly body weight, uses sand bags, slam balls, TRX trainers, bands, and a heavy dumbbell.
My girlfriends shared that the first workout was free… and that they bring their young kiddos. There really wasn’t anything there that the kids could break (trust me my boys did their best to TRY to break things… not really… they just had to TOUCH and TEST everything there). I was sold on the fact that I could try it for free and the boys could come, watch and even join in if they wanted to.
Once our trainers were ready we had a dynamic warm up and then we were off… 40 minutes of sweaty, full-body, calorie burning workout.
The workout went very quickly, so I am not sure what we even did. I remember using the bands that were attached to the wall. We lunged, squatted, pressed, and pushed. Those bands were killer! We used a heavy (25lb) dumbbell to squat, row, curl, and lunge. We used a 30lb sandbag to squat, lunge, push press, row, curl, do various push-ups on, and whip around. We used a weighted slam ball to slam and finish with spider man pushups.
Each of the three main workouts were intense with intervals. You worked at your own pace while challenging yourself to go to the max.
My heart rate was pumping! Sweat was dripping down my face and nose. I was a hot sweaty mess! Ha!
The whole time we were working out, our kiddos were 20 feet from us either imitating the workout, watching, or entertaining themselves doing their own workout on the equipment (on the other side a safe distance from us).
I have decided to use and challenge this new-to-me workout style to my fitness routine over the next few weeks. The boys liked it and enjoyed working out with me. The trainers were TOTALLY kid-friendly (didn’t even bat an eye when my monkeys were testing out their equipment). I am hoping that I will stay motivated and use this to keep me accountable with my strength training… working out with friends.
Fun and sweaty times with friends this morning at Pure Fit PFT Elk Grove. It was hard. It was challenging. It will be worth it. If it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you. I desire change. I am up for the challenge.
If you are local to the Sacramento, Elk Grove, Lodi, Stockton, Tracy, Modesto or Rocklin area… you should totally check this out. Your workout is free and they have a New Years Transformation Resolution Challenge starting January 5th: 6 weeks of training for $69.
I was not paid or told to share my experience. I decided to sweat and challenge myself on my own accord (with my friends prompting). I paid my own money to get my butt kicked. Haha! I paid for this hurt!

Yay! Change can be fun too! 😉 I have to remind myself of that! LOL
Are you still doing the ninja style training, Katie?

What fun to work out with your friends! Seems like it ended up being a double fun time since the kids could play together too.

I think I broke a sweat just reading what you did. I would love to do the challenge, that’s a great price!

Elk Grove is less than 15 minutes away from my home so I’ll definitely have to check this out. My best friend stays in Laguna so I’ll definitely have to let her know about this.

It sounds like it would really challenge you for sure. That’s great that the kiddos were entertained too and kinda joined in.
