Summer is in full swing and the boys and I are having a blast keeping busy. Everything is awesome. Or that is at least the song that is in our head all day after watching a new-to-us movie today. Here is another glimpse into our daily life from yet another busy Tuesday.
The boys and I enjoyed watching The Lego Movie. We went to the theater to see the local $1 movies with friends from church. We had quite a turn out. In fact, it seemed that a lot of people had this same idea as the theater was packed!
This was a super cute movie. We all enjoyed it. I would like to see it again and use it as a learning lesson with the boys… that everyone is awesome and special. Of course, now THIS will be in my head forever and a day. Everything is awesome!
After the movie we hung out with friends at a nearby park for a quick picnic lunch and play date. I love the ease of play dates when I love the friend I am with and the kiddos all get along well. It just makes for a great time had by all.
After the lunch picnic play date the boys and I headed home. We had a little down time before our next big fun activity adventure meeting a different group of friends.
I had planned to go to the gym to workout, but the uncooperative behavior of three small monkeys all pointing fingers at each other (who me!?) made us late. No one would fess up who destroyed the play room and no one was interested in helping clean it up. So we were at a stand still… and late for our play date.
Thankfully my friend totally understood and we met her later… once the boys picked up their mess.
While I waited, I decided I was going to get a work out in anyway. I took my laptop to the garage and busted out a 40 minute (which included warm up/cool down) Les Mills Pump & Burn workout. The boys were inside cleaning their mess… and I was getting my strength and sweat on.
I am really enjoying this fitness program. Strength training. Heavy weights. Challenging workouts (you work/lift as hard/heavy as you want). Only 3 days a week. Totally digging it so far!
I think Daisy-girl even enjoyed me working out near her… versus inside. She totally just chilled out laying down on the cool garage floor. I think she was keeping an eye out for the boys through the door. It was a girls only workout (she nap and rest while mommy grunted and worked out).
After my strength session, the boys play room was clean, and another snack was had by all… we headed to the gym to meet friends to swim. These boys love swimming. They love swimming with friends even more! This makes me happy. When they are happy… Mama is happy.
The boys swam with their friends for almost three hours! These water monkeys were exhausted… and hungry!
Thankfully they were in good spirits and were happy with Mama’s decision to have dinner at Chick Fila. Yes. It happens. We drive through for our meals. A lot. Some nights it is just easier. Tonight was one of those nights.
After dinner, the boys took their baths, brushed and we read another chapter from the book A Horse and His Boy. Nice. Easy. Calm.
The boys were tired. Bedtime routine was a breeze.
In fact, they were SO tired. Here I sit and type at 7:30. In a quiet house. My boys are asleep. No extra hugs or kisses. No more bedtime prayers. no more thirsty requests for water. Sleeping.
This either means they will wake even earlier tomorrow morning… or they just played themselves OUT COLD!
I personally like it when we have fun-filled days packed full of activity. When they get along and are happy. Then when it is time for bed they pass out.
As I type. Everything is awesome. It was a great fun day. Tomorrow… I pray will be another fun day… but household chores, errands, and the ever growing Mount Laundry awaits!

You are such a rad mom, lifting weights in the garage and everything! If I have kids I hope I can accomplish HALF as much as you do!
Rachel says
Thank you SO much, Tiff! My biggest tip for working out, running, and the like with kids is to start doing it when they are born. If it is a part of their daily routine since birth… they don’t question it. I remember doing DVD workouts while C was in the bouncer as an infant. I loaded him in the baby carrier/stroller and we went out for our morning walks (then jogs) shortly after birth. It is just a routine. A habit. That continues as they age. 🙂
You will be a rad mom. I know it! 🙂

Sounds fun!! We went as a family to see the Lego Movie in March and since then Everything is Awesome has been our theme song. Every time one of the kids gets whiny about the injustices of life (rolls eyes – how bad can my 6 yr old’s life really be???) we interrupt them with the song Everything is Awesome. We change some of the words to be: “When you’re on the Smith Team…” to remind them that we are all in this together as a family.
Rachel says
I can totally relate to the “total injustice of the world” drama even with my boys. <3
I LOVE the idea of using the song, the message, to relay a point to them (and remind ourselves) that everything is awesome when we work as a team. 🙂 Lov eit!

I miss summers out of school and hanging out by the pool! So fun!
Rachel says
Haha! yes! Summers spent by the pool were some of my BEST memories as a child. 🙂
Melissa says
That pool looks awesome! I love keeping my kids busy. We have been watching the Lego Movie a lot too!
Not So Average Mama says
Oh swimming! I am so happy that we are going to go swimming at a friends tomorrow. She is even going to feed us, can’t beat that!
Rachel says
Oh fun! Love time spent with friends… and when THEY cook! 🙂
Lisa says
Ack – now I’m singing Everything is Awesome in my head!!!!
Rachel says
Haha! Right!? So sorry …. but everything IS awesome, right? lol

I just watched the Lego movie last weekend with all the kids. It was awesome!

Those dollar movies are great during the summertime! I totally want to jump into that pool with your kids right now.

What GREAT GREAT day you had! I loved days like that when my kids were little! Now at 12 and 15, we still manage to have fun days, and I celebrate each one because I know it’s fleeting!

My son recently watched the Lego Movie with his friend and they both enjoyed it!
Cat @ TOTS says
This day could definitely have been my day, okay maybe without the workout part. My boys are usually in bed at 8pm and maybe earlier on super busy days!

I love Les Mills Pump! It’s my go to series right now. I love that it’s totally doable with running. I only wish there was a little more variety. I go to bed before my kids 🙂
Rachel says
Awesome. Yes. I find that the workouts themselves are not that EXCITING. BUT they do make you work. 🙂
Lynsey @MoscatoMom says
This is the first year I have been lax on the bedtime – they are 8 and 15 and up until the last few weeks I was pretty strict about bedtime being 8pm. (I KNOW!) I’ve been lax though and we have pushed it to 9 – 10 a few times if we’ve been out having fun 🙂
Rachel says
I would totally be lax on the bedtime with my kiddos… but no matter what time they go to bed, they still wake up before 6AM. Yawn. Yes. SO… early bedtime NEEDS to be enforced. LOL For mamas sake.
Beth says
Bedtime is at 8pm here during the summer … earlier on school days. The kids have been worn out this summer because they crash when they get to bed!
Lisa @ Crazy Adventures in Parenting says
I am DYING to see this movie with my kiddos!! I’m totally gonna sing that song during my workout tomorrow lol
Mommy Has A Life says
I love the everything is awesome song!!! What a great idea to go see this in the dollar theater- I think we will head over there next week 🙂
Andrea Kruse says
A perfect day ends with everyone crawling into bed and crashing… full on, you are living life if sleep is your reward in the end. Oh yes. My husband had “Everything is Awesome” as his ringtone for several weeks… it is now my favorite way to turn morning grumpies into a dance party with my kids. Works like a charm!
Rachel says
haha! I love it! We have been listening to HAPPY to turn our frowns upside down when the crankies come… but I think I will have to follow after you and use this song now too… Everything is Awesome… when we work as a team! 🙂
Chelle @ Oh Just Stop Already says
I can’t wait to get the Lego movie! It looks so stinkin’ adorable. Love your weight set, I keep hoping the husband will let me get one soon. Our kids during the summer go to bed around 10 except for the baby. To them that’s the high life becausenormally bed time is 815.
Mel Outnumbered says
I’ve been wanting to see the Lego movie. Sounds like you’re all having good times!

Wow!! Good job! I wish I could get half as much done in a day as you do!
Liz Mays says
I want to see that movie. I just keep hearing all these great things about it! I like planning days full of fun like you do. 🙂

I’m so jealous of all the fun you had- my family has been down for the count with the plague for a week now! We are finally venturing outside tomorrow. I am hoping to catch the Lego Movie soon- glad you liked it!
