When you ask other runners what is on their music playlist, you will undoubtedly find a wide variety of tunes, beats and lyrics. That is what makes the running community so unique is the diverseness of our community. I love that we can all be out there running while jamming to our own style of music. I personally love motivational Christian workout songs for my playlist.
When creating my own music play list for training and racing, I found that I was really drawn to Contemporary Christian hits for my workout music. Not only for my personal beliefs, but these songs have the perfect blend of beat and inspiration. These songs are perfect for tough workouts and runs.
You can totally rock out to Contemporary Christian music that has the right beat, lyrics, and message to get your heart pumping and legs moving fast! These songs have motivational lyrics about pushing through, overcoming obstacles and believing that you can do anything. That is the perfect mix for me when hitting the trail, road or race!
I love being reminded of God’s amazing grace, strength, and power when I am not feeling it while on a run. God is awesome, and having that steady stream of inspirational, motivational, upbeat music streaming through my ear buds is what I love about my alone running time.
Here are 30 of my current favorite positive, inspirational and motivational Christian workout and running songs I have on my playlist. Each song has a positive message to help you push past the struggle to keep moving forward.

Rachel-
Stumbled onto your blog via a friend. I love this post! I’m a huge fan of christian rock and I’m hooked on K-Love radio! I have been listening to that during my runs because, besides the great music, I also love to hear the wonderful stories of everyday people!
I love the selection you listed, I would add: “Shake” by MercyMe and “Speak Life” by Toby Mac.
Congratulations on your “2nd” marathon! I’ve done one and who knows, maybe another is in my future-whatever God has planned!
Peace and blessings to you!
Rachel says
Awesome! Thank you to your friend for sharing my blog with you! 🙂 I will totally have to add those songs, I love MercyMe and TobyMac! 🙂

I love Bethel, HIllsong, and Superchick, as well as Jeremy riddle and Phil Wickam. Have you heard “One Thirst & One Hunger” by Jeremy Riddle? So good we played it at our wedding. Maybe not a workout song, but it gives me goosebumps every time I play it. I love playing worship music throughout the day. It truly does lift you up and reminds you of how Great and AWesome our God is!!
Rachel says
Yes! Yes! Yes!! I will have to check out that song by Jeremy Riddle. 🙂
I agree. Often when I am finding myself overwhelmed or frustrated with {insert life’s lemons or circumstances out of our control} singing or humming a hymn or workship song totally shifts my mindset to things above… and I feel instant calm. 🙂
This is especially true when shopping with my three boys at Target or the grocery store. If you were to see me with them… half the time I am pushing the cart, smiling and humming VERY loudly (to dull out the noise of my monkeys). 🙂

I am new to your blog. Stumbled upon it through Pinterest. I HAVE to listen to music when I run.

I love fast-paced songs and I have bought “workout” cd’s, but only to find out that they are sung by random people and not the original artist and remixed to be faster. I like original fast-paced songs. Thanks!

Hi Rachel,
Just wanted to thank you, after some recent surgery, I have been at physio and rehab which involves a lot of gym work to learn to walk properly again. I have been struggling with motivation whilst on the equipment, so my daughter gave me an MP3 player to listen to whilst working out. I found that it was both a blessing and a curse the rhythmic beat of the music was beneficial as it helped me to keep my own rhythm, however the music that my daughter listens to is quite honestly mind numbing to me and I found myself giving up listening after a few songs. My wife then suggested that I could try and find some music that I enjoyed and use this, so I thought what kind of Worship Music was there that I could use which lead me on a search where I found your blog with just what I was looking for. Now after the last few days with your suggestions firmly on my MP3 player, I have been finding it easier to get into my rhythm whilst at the same time giving thanks and praise to God. The physio staff have also noticed a diference in my determination.
God bless.
Rachel says
Yay! You are SO welcome! Prayers for a speedy road to recovery! 🙂
