This past weekend I had an epic whirl-wind adventure in LA with some amazing athletes, Olympians and bloggers. It was a weekend filled with laughter, memories and good times. Running 26.2 miles with 25,000 other crazy runners in the heat was just the cherry on top of an amazing weekend. It was great and I am excited to share my adventure and experience with ya’ll. Keep checking in this week and I promise my weekend recap will be up.
Now that my weekend marathon… running … is on recovery mode, my Mommy hat is now on full time mode again. I am spending today with the boys and resuming my mommy duties. I promise a full recap of the weekend events will be live this week! But for now, I have three little men (and one big man) who need my attention.
I arrived back in Sacramento around 11:30 this morning. Just enough time to eat lunch, run home to drop off my luggage, start a load of laundry, kiss my husband goodbye (so he could go to work), and then rush to pick up the big boys from their charter co-op classes. I almost missed pick up because the spring forward time change confused me.
The above sign was taped to the monitor of my computer in the office when I came home. My oldest son (8 years) made it for me. It was my welcome home sign and award for running the race. I love it and thought it was thoughtful, clever and cute… just like him.
After having all the boys home we ate a snack and then ventured out to enjoy the beautiful day (70s and sunny). Nothing says active recovery like playing with kiddos at the park: baseball and watching brave monkeys climb on high structures.
After they had their fill of Mommy… they decided to venture off and play their own little imaginary game. I kicked back and enjoyed the sunshine and did my best to stretch. Notice my pretty multi-colored ASICS I received this weekend… they are super comfortable and such a fun shoe.
Life is busy. No rest for the weary… at least for this mama. I am thankful for my long weekend away to play… but I am equally thankful to be home safe with my family. Going away this past weekend, running my second marathon, and doing something for me has made me a better wife and Mommy… I feel refreshed.
Today I “rested”, played, giggled and did my best to stay hydrated and stretch out my tight quads… and nurse my poor toe with a blister on it. Ah the joys of running and motherhood… always an adventure!

Great job Rachel! I love seeing your race splits and reading about the thoughts running through your head at each stage of the race.

For moms, recovery doesn’t always look text book perfect and I wouldn’t change it for the world 🙂
Congrats on the race!
Rachel says
Thank you… and YES! Perhaps this is to our benefit of the whole ‘active recovery’ of being a mom! 🙂
Linz @ Itz Linz says

Rachel says
Haha! What about COOKIES? Chocolate chip cookies to be exact? LOL
You know, Coach Kastor actually said that he recommends his athletes to EAT ICECREAM each night to build their calorie base… hmmm… I wonder if this same rule applies to the recovery process! <3
