This year has been a whirlwind of adventure and craziness in our home regarding homeschooling. My two older boys (2nd & K) have their own curriculum and pacing guide that I use. This often left my youngest (preschool – 4 years old) feeling left out.
My youngest son often wanted to do school just like his big brothers. I would offer him the usual preschool staples like: coloring, play-doh, magnets, blocks etc… but he was wanting to learn. He had interest. He wanted to learn to read. I didn’t want to stifle his desire and I went with it.
Today I want to share with you two programs that we have been using in our homeschooling preschool program. Here are two homeschooling resources for your preschooler you can easily use and incorporate into your routine.
Two great programs we have been using the past few months with my youngest, now 4 years old, is the online program ABCmouse and the workbook series by Kumon. I want to share with you my experience and opinion on BOTH of these resources… and give you the opportunity to win your preschooler the program too!
ABCmouse is a paid online learning curriculum in a game style session. This is similar to other programs on the market in that it has fun games and learning lessons. However, where this one differs is that it is specifically structured for your child’s learning level. You can decide to start him/her at a specific level and if it is too easy/hard you (as the parent) can adjust the lesson.
You can follow the learning path that ABCmouse provides, or you can even create a customized lesson for your child each day. As the parent it gives you the option to provide flexibility, control, and specific goal lessons should you choose.
ABCmouse is an online paid program and the membership can be used for up to three students. I am currently only using it with my four year old son. He loves doing his school on the computer. He gets excited when he beats a level and earns tickets for his pet hamster. As the mom, I love seeing his enthusiasm grow as he loves learning!
In addition to the online program mentioned above, I am also using the Kumon workbooks as my son’s table work. He enjoys this time with mom at the table doing school just like his big brothers.
I have used the Kumon Workbooks with all of my boys. Most recently using it as one of the main teaching resources for my youngest. He loves the bright colors and easy to follow lessons in the workbooks. I love that you can easily follow along with a lesson a day without overwhelming your child.
THE KUMON METHOD is what makes their workbooks so unique and effective. This Method is a proven learning system developed to help each child reach his or her full potential. Concepts are introduced in a step-by-step manner that allows the child to master each in turn without getting frustrated. Before long, children gain confidence in their abilities and are motivated to learn on their own.

We love ABC Mouse at our house! It is great for rainy days when we can’t get out and my son loves sitting at the computer and feeling like he is a big boy! 🙂

I’ve heard of ABCmouse, but we haven’t tried it out. It looks great though. I’d love to try it out with my girls. Thank you for the giveaway!

I’d love to try the Kumon workbooks with my daughters. I use a lot of homemade resources so it would be great to supplement it with them. Thanks for the possible opportunity.

I used to do kumon when I was young and it worked well for me! I’d love to do it with my daughters.

I just had my parent-teacher conference with my 3 year old’s nursery school. I was disappointed to see that they only introduce and discuss four shapes (square, rectangle, circle, and triangle). My daughter knows many more shapes than that. I’d love to use ABCmouse to help her learn more about the other shapes.

I would love to have ABC mouse for my twin 5 year olds! We opted to keep them at home instead of attending preschool and I can use anything to help them prepare for kindergarten!

It’s good to see about ABC mouse. You have shared awesome points and great resources that would be helpful for many of the homeschoolers.
