With less than two weeks before my first full marathon, I am in full taper mode. Not only have I encountered a foot injury, but the concentrated focus on resting, rolling, hydration and icing is a good idea. I have never had a major injury while running before. I am a firm believer that proper shoes are crucial for a successful healthy running career.
Yesterday, I visited my local chiropractor… with my three wild monkeys. Let me tell you that was an adventure (for an entirely separate blog post!)!!! The chiropractor adjusted my whole body and foot. He said that I was out of alignment in my hips and feet… and we are hopeful that come race day I will be race ready (bone wise).
He wrapped my heel and foot with kinesiology tape and set me on my way. I will return to his office next week for another (hopefully final) evaluation.
My game plan for the next two weeks is to heal and rest. I want my foot to be completely pain free come race day. My plan of attack is to put as many miles (as I can) in my new shoes. I will also be foam rolling, doing trigger point therapy on myself, as well as stretching and icing.
That afternoon, as a FitFluential Ambassador, I was sent a pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 17’s to review. I haven’t run in them yet… but will soon… let me tell you, they are SUPER comfortable and full of cushion. I have been wearing them around the house because they make my foot happy!
So the past few days have been all about the shoes! This mother runner can’t have enough lovely running shoes… they make me happy!
One thing that marathon training has taught me is that I am strong. Not only physically but also mentally. The real purpose of running isn’t to win a race, it is to test the limits of the human heart! This foot owie might be a distraction on race day… but it won’t prevent me from running! My limits will be tested and I will pass the test.
Do you have a favorite shoe you run in?
I love all great running shoes (that fit in my budget and don’t hurt my feet!!).

Glad to hear your foot is feeling a little better! The only shoes I’ve ever run in (in the short time I’ve been a runner) are Mizuno Wave Inspires. The last pair I’ve had bothers me a little, so I don’t know if they changed it from the pair I had before that or what. I may need to explore my options!
