I am sick. All the snotty nosed kisses from my boys have spread to Mommy. This has put a damper on my training for my next race, which is in 2 weeks. Taking a cue and listening to my body, I am resting. I am not stopping. I am healing and recovering.
Instead of moping about my productive cough and lack of running… I decided to celebrate the health I do have. There is victory in the every day. Living and learning the lesson to keep moving forward. It is not if you get knocked down in life (sickness), it is how you pick yourself up and move on that matters the most!
In hindsight, I now realize that my body was dragging the past few days because it was attempting to fight off a cold. I am picking myself up and continuing to move forward. I may not be completing my prescribed training plan… but I am taking care of me and my needs. I am moving forward. I am finding victory in the every day.
Taking advantage of the sunshine and cooler temperatures, I loaded the two not-so-little boys (5 & 3 years old = 75+ lbs) in the double jogger. The boys, our dog, and I set out to the near by trail at the park to enjoy some fresh air, movement, and change of scenery.
The effort wasn’t hard. I didn’t break a sweat or get out of breath. It was just a nice change of pace for us… all while still moving my legs this morning.
Just like in all things motherhood… it wouldn’t be an outing without a bit of humor.
While on the trail, we passed a temporary horse corral (left there from this weekend’s Western Festival). The boys got all excited. Then the unexplainable happened.
T-man (3 years old) shouted to the horses: “Hey Hussy!” (translation: hey horsey!)
Just as a scantily clad curvy female runner frolicked/ran past our stroller! {Gah!}
I couldn’t help but giggle the entire walk home. They were clueless. I am hopeful that the girl was clueless.
However, Today’s victory was that I didn’t get beat up! and I chose to have an active rest day rather than a sedentary rest day.
I am choosing to find victory in the every day! Laughing when life throws me curve balls. Continuing to move forward when life gets challenging.
Where did you find Victory Today?
I would love to hear your about your victorious day!

I had a horrible run yesterday! It was supposed to be a 30 min. tempo run and it turned into a 3 mile walk/jog. I felt awful! I came home in tears (I think a lot of my issue is hormonal.) My kiddos added to the down feeling by being, well, kids. They were fighting and squabbling, disobeying, being wound up! I wanted to go back to bed! So what did I do? I canceled school for the day. We went to walk down by the close by river and then I required outside play while I mowed the lawn. I felt so much better after a day full of fresh air!
I love that story about your son! It always cracks me up when kids say things that provide comic relief.

I think a lot of people forget to listen to the signals their body is sending them… both the signals telling you to rest more AND the signals telling you to move more. I’m glad you found a way to enjoy the day, even if it wasn’t in the way that you had expected or planned. Good luck on your next race!

I love your little boy story! When my son was about that age we went shopping in Costco, and he got pretty restless (I had an infant too at that time). I handed him my new phone and showed him how to take pictures. There was a lady, with an amble butt, bending WAY over next to the cart, and he snapped a picture. It might have gone unnoticed, but he started cackling hysterically. The lady’s husband shot me a wicked look and led her away quickly.

Sometimes you just have to stop and listen to your body!

Love your hussy story!! Reminds me of the time I took my 2-year-old to swim at the YMCA. While we were changing in the locker room, he shouted, “Look at the knockers (lockers)!”
