Thought for the Day: Just because something is hard doesn’t mean it is impossible. Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I’m possible. Sometimes the things in life that seem the most impossible are the ones that we must chase after to prove wrong.
Just because something is hard doesn’t mean it’s wrong… it just means it is HARD! Don’t over think that basic fact! Embrace the process. Tweak some things. Figure out what you need to learn through it… and HANG IN THERE! Remember, if the plan doesn’t work, change the plan.. not the goal!!
I love the journal entry that Lysa Terkeurst shares in her Unglued Devotional, which talks about her making imperfect progress. Imperfect changes are slow steps of progress wrapped in grace… imperfect progress.
Progress. Just make progress. It’s okay to have setbacks and the need for do-overs. It’s okay to draw a line in the sand and start over again – and again. Just make sure you are moving the line forward. Move forward. Take baby steps, but at least take steps that keep you from being stuck. Then change will come. And it will be good.
Like everything in my life, sometimes I just need to start over… again and again. This covers topics of faith, family, fitness and food. Yes, even the topic of homeschooling. The amazing thing about God’s love is that he gives us grace to start over. He brings new mercies each day.
If you, or I, slip up on our nutrition plan… we can dust ourselves off and start over. If we forget to spend time in God’s word… we can dust off our Bible and start new. If we find that something isn’t working with our training plan, our daily routine, or our weekly expectations… we can always rework, re-tweak and re-plan. It is possible to reach our goal. We need to be consistent, determined, focused.
“Practice these things; immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.” 1 Timothy 4:15
Either way, I am determined to succeed. I am focused on my goals. I will reach my goals. Just because it is hard, doesn’t mean it is impossible. For whatever I hold in my mind on a consistent basis is exactly what I will experience in my own life.
What is something that you are struggling to see as a possibility today? Is it a fitness goal? Weight loss? Or does it involve your faith or family?
What do you do when you are trying to overcome the word impossible when reaching your goals?

I love your blog! I’m having a hard time believing that my first half marathon (Disney Princess) is just about a month away!
I’ve been putting in the training — and it has DEFINITELY been hard! — but I am still having a difficult time believing that I can actually do this. I basically just keep telling myself over and over that I WILL cross that finish line; eventually, I’ll have to believe it, right?! 😀

This is such a great reminder! And honestly, the best things in life require work and aren’t easy to come by.

I wish I could get my sons to understand this, they put little effort into anything that they think is “hard”. Drives me crazy.

I am not really trying to overcome impossible – just hard. How often people give up when it gets hard. My motto at the gym, sadly, is “If it is easy, everyone would do it.” It helps me push myself through my reps and sets though – I can’t give up because it’s hard.

Thanks for the reminder that all things are possible if you plan your work, and work your plan.

Ah, this is good to read! I googled “christian running blogs” because I’m starting out running, and I can’t help but compare my running to my relationship with the Lord…at least to some extent. Running has become a spiritual thing for me, and a healing one! I just faced my first “bad run” yesterday. It wasn’t fun. I didn’t like it. Now I’m afraid I’m going to dislike running. I began googling to gain some hope and motivation…and hopefully this works! I liked reading your perspective on difficulties and hardships, and I appreciate the words of hope you had to offer! You’re right–It’s not impossible, even though sometimes I get caught up in that FEELING.

I try to remember the Chumbawumba song “I get knocked down but I get up again..you’re never gonna get me down!”

Nodding—yes. I needed this reminder today 🙂

I tell this to my 9 yr old son ALL of the time especially when it comes to football. Sometimes he will tell me that it’s to hard and I tell him that he is right because if it was easy everyone would be playing football. I also tell him with some hard work and determination over time playing football will get a little easier and not be so tough. Thanks for sharing this great post.
