This time of year is crazy busy. There is always somewhere to go and somewhere to be. Life is busy. During the month of December, I am trying to slow down the pace and just be. The days are getting shorter, wetter, colder, and the kids are getting anxious for the upcoming arrival of St. Nick.
Just for fun, I decided to do a snowman craft with the boys. It is a relatively simple craft for them to do by themselves or with your help. Once you have your needed supplies you can get as creative as you desire!
Supplies:
White paper plates (or white cardstock/construction paper circles)
Poster Board Letters (or you can paint them on)
Construction Paper (for the nose/hat/embellishments)
Wiggly Eyes (or you can draw/paint them in)
Buttons (if you want to embellish and decorate further)
Glue
Staples
Ribbon or Streamer
I was able to find all my supplies at my local Wally World. The great thing about this craft is that you can be as simple or elaborate as you and your children desire to be! You can add cotton, glitter, cloth, and more! Creativity and fun is key!
This is a very hands on craft. My boys are 6, 4, and 3 years old. My oldest was able to complete this craft independently. My two younger boys wanted to do this by themselves… but grew frustrated with certain steps of the process. I helped guide them for a few steps.
If you are the type of parent that gives complete creativity to your child… this is a craft where they can do that. If your children expect near perfection and for it to look like big brother’s snowman… then you will have to help guide their little hands a bit more.
When we made this craft, I attached the entire snowman first. This worked out for the two little boys (who I ended up helping a lot). However, for my oldest son his kept falling apart… and frustrating him. The next time we make this craft, I would make each plate separate before attaching the snowman pieces.
How To Make the Snowman Name Craft
1. The EASIEST thing would be to glue the letters on each circle FIRST.
2. Then attach the embellishments/decorations on the snowman’s head.
3. Staple/glue/attach the snowman’s body in order.
4. Add the final touches to your snowman (ribbon/streamer scarf or arms/boots)
I think they turned out super cute! I have their snowmen hanging on the bedroom doors. It is festive, super cute, hand made and super easy! The boys and I enjoyed making this together and I hope you and your children enjoy making this fun and super cute snowman craft together too!

They are SO cute! I have a Jeremiah, though, which would be one big snowman! Maybe I’d get smaller plates 🙂 Great idea!

Haha! Yes! My youngest’s name was super long (almost as tall as him!) Smaller plates would work PERFECTLY (think like coffee mug circle sized) <3

Also, to answer your question, I am not crafty AT ALL. But I might be able to pull this one off 🙂

I would suggest joining the plates with brads (the things that look like thumb-tacks but the ‘pin’ splits to be separated to either side to hold things together) this would be more secure (& safer for little hands) & Mr. Snow-Name would dance merrily everytime the door was opened or closed. 🙂
Aimee says
Also it could be used as a horizontal-type garland…
