Learning Our Letters with Reading Eggs

I have decided to homeschool my two younger boys, ages 4 and 2 years.  My homeschooling curriculum is very eclectic and a bit of a hodge podge of books and resources I have collected over the years from being a teacher and mom.

One of the latest resources I have acquired and used with the boys is the internet reading program called, Reading Eggs.  It is very similar to other online programs, such as StarFall and JumpStart.  Reading Eggs has two levels depending on your student’s reading level.

Reading Eggs is a unique online world where children learn to read from ages 3-7. It supports each child’s learning by offering individual, one-on-one lessons that allow children to progress at their own pace. Children love the more than 1,000 activities, games, songs, golden eggs and other rewards which, along with feeling proud of their reading, really motivate children to keep exploring and learning with Reading Eggs. The Reading Eggspress community is geared for older children (7-13) to encourage fluent reading via the more than 1,000 books in the e-library and the ability to compete with children around the world.

My younger two boys use the lower level (orange) and my oldest (6 years old) likes to use the Reading Eggspress level (blue).  Each program is personalized by their ability and age level.  The program remembers the child’s name and last completed (mastered) level.

My boys have enjoyed using this program over the past few weeks.  They giggle when they get answers correct.  They giggle when they get answers wrong.  They are learning.  They are having fun.

Once thing I do want to share is that this program is not for true beginning learners.  For students who are just starting to learn their letter names and sounds, a program like StarFall or Hooked on Phonics would be best for them.  From my experience, reading eggs is a great supplemental program to help further their love of learning and learning to read.

Just to show you how much my boys enjoy the reading express program… check out the video I made of them learning (or purposefully choosing the wrong answers) during their computer time.  This program is worth every penny… just for the weight of their giggles and smiles.

Disclosure: I received a 3 month free trial to use, enjoy and teach with my children through the MomSelect program.  No compensation was received.  All opinions are my own.
