Happy fitness inspiration Friday! Another week has flown by and it is time for me to share with you another fitness inspiration. This week’s fitspiration is Caitlin.
Tell me a little bit about your fitness journey
I started my fitness journey in my junior year of college because I wanted to lose weight. I wasn’t overweight, but wanted a more athletic and toned physique. I started out doing elliptical sessions at the gym, but found my attention wandering. Each workout was torture! That’s when I decided to try spin classes. They were tough, but I loved the sweaty, accomplished feeling I got after a class. I started reading lots of health magazines and learned about the many kinds of group fitness classes out there. I started trying every kind I could, and rarely did I find a class I didn’t like. To this day, group fitness classes are the main part of my workout schedule.
I ran a 5K, then a 10K, and then had an 8mile run one day – my PD, and I am still very proud. I’ve also achieved my goal of an 8 minute mile and a 5K PR too! However, I’m no runner. I’ve tried to become one during my 10K training, but I could never get as into it as this group fitness classes. I made the decision to stop trying to force myself to be a runner like the rest of the blog world and do what I wanted.
What is your fitness LOVE?
See above and it’s obvious…group fitness classes! Zumba, Interval Training, Kickboxing, Group Power (like Body Pump), and Step are all fantastic. The occasional Yoga class is refreshing too, but my fitness LOVE comes from feeling kick-ass and Yoga doesn’t make me feel quite as intense as the other classes do!
What is your ONE piece of fitness advice you find helpful to keep you motivated?
It’s only “X” minutes. When I pull up to the gym, and I don’t want to go in, I think “In just ___ minutes, you’ll be out of here feeling fantastic”. I usually don’t spend more than 60 minutes at a time in the gym, whether in a class or solo workout, because I believe in working out harder and smarter, not longer.
