The past few days have been crazy busy. We have been enjoying the sunshine, warmer temperatures and great outdoors. The boys and I have been covering many miles on the river trail as well as getting in some good old fashion sprinkler fun.
Spending many hours outside in the sun and countless hours at the ball field for games and practices make dinner planning a challenge. It is either too hot outside to cook a hot meal in the oven or our evenings are busy with social and sports activities.
I am thankful my children love cereal and eagerly (and happily) chow away when I serve cereal as a dinner option. Like most moms, I try to limit their sugar intake. I was (and still am) amazed at how much sugar is in the typical child friendly cereal… as well as how much is in adult cereal.
A few weeks ago, I received a box full of yummy healthy cereal from Attune Foods. I was super jazzed because I am always on the look out for healthy, tasty, food!
My first impression of their cereal was that it tasted healthy. It wasn’t gross or bland, it just had that un-sugared cereal taste. It did keep me full and satisfied thanks to the good dose of fiber and whole grain.
The only hiccup has been completely weaning the boys over to the healthy cereals. I have been blending the Attune brand foods with their favorite Frosted Mini Wheats. We are making progress, but it is that sugar addiction that has already grabbed hold of their young taste buds.
Planning the family dinner meals for the week is always an adventure. I plan yummy meals that my husband and I will enjoy, while the children will snub their nose. I always offer them what we serve, and if they politely decline they have the option to have cereal for dinner instead. Thank goodness for healthy satiating foods from Attune Foods to give my boys a healthy option.

I grew up in a home where my mom usually cooked things we( the kids) liked. However, we always didn’t like everything! If we were still hungry we could eat whatever we wanted. Most of the time that would be a bowl of cereal or a peanut butter sandwich. When I have kids I think I will be similiar yo how I grew up. I will cook a healthy meal for my family. If they don’t like it, them they don’t gave to eat it. I don’t believe in forcing kids….but I will encourage them to try new foods. If they r still hungry then they can have something else that’s healthy, but no dessert. Desserts will only be served a couple times a week. I GRE up on a house where we pretty much had dessert ( candy, cookies, chips, cake, etc) whenever we wanted. I’d like to read a post on how often do you serve dessert in your house. I’m curious to read others answers.

Haha thanks! Honestly, dessert isn’t served often in our house (when the kids are awake). It is a true special occasion when they get dessert. 🙂
