Living Life–Living my Priorities

by Rachel on March 19, 2012 · 4 comments

The past few weeks, I have been sharing my healthy focus challenges as well as my personal struggle to live my priorities.  Slowing down and living what it important. Today I decided to live my priorities and modify my training plan.  My husband’s wonky work schedule and lack of the gym’s childcare due to my lovely snotty, feverish, coughing children resulted in me modifying my scheduled training run.

I could have thrown in the towel and said, “Screw my training plan! I quit!” But I didn’t.  I decided to roll with the punches and modify my plan to make it work for me and my circumstance.

I had an easy 5 mile run scheduled, that had to be modified.  My dog needed her walk (she is almost 8 years old and can no longer run with me… but is a trooper at a good solid power walk).  The boys were snotty, with cough, and feverish.  They needed fresh air and a change of scenery – perhaps MOMMY needed a change of scenery just as bad!

I decided to load everyone up (bundled with snacks and water) and head to the river trail near our house.  We explored the hilly 6 mile loop.  It wasn’t my scheduled 5 mile easy training run… but my heart was pounding, lungs were put to good use, and muscles got a good workout.  Plus, I covered the desired distance for my training plan!!

This afternoon, after my oldest came home from school we headed out for a chilly, quick, windy bike ride (2 miles) on the trail.  Priorities.  Making movement a family affair is a priority.

Can you tell we love living near the river trail!?!

Now that the house is asleep, I am reflecting upon my day and making goals and a list to help make tomorrow a happy, healthy, LOVE FILLED day.  Oh yes, and I am getting my #plankaday core workout on right after I finish this recap!

I feel like I am always reevaluating my training plan. Now that it is getting warmer and the sun is up later I am able to take my daughter with me on runs….which she loves. Before that it was early morning or bust! As moms we always have to change to fit our family….that’s what makes us stronger!!

All I can say is hooray for double strollers and trails! Those two things have been saviors in our house many times.

A walk or run outside makes everyone feel better.

Good luck on your new day and back to your plan!
